Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders .

Florida State Hospital (FSH) is a mental health treatment facility owned and operated by the State of Florida and is part of the Department of Children and Families. This is a highly responsible and professional position serving as Dental Hygienist within Dental Services. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player who works seamlessly across all sections within the program office. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

The employee in this position spends a minimum of 85% of his/her time performing duties outlined in the official position description, which involve contact with patients within the hospital. This position will serve Civil and Forensic patients and patients in the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program. Duties are as follows:

• Perform Oral Evaluations, prophylaxis and other treatments within licensure scope of practice. Prepares operatory for patients. 
• Have instruments ready.
• Perform routine laboratory work as needed, such as oral impressions, etc. 
• Utilize autoclave (sterilize) instruments. 
• Take X-rays as needed.
• Pulls dental record cards for patients who have appointments for that day. 
• Prepares Dental Operatory for receiving patients and procedure needing to be done. 
• Ensure your orders for dental supplies is turned in to be ordered. 
• Cleans and maintains equipment. 
• Maintains records indicating number of patients seen and type of treatment. 
• Communicate with the Dental Assistants as needed for supplies, patient care assistance, Etc.
• Communicate with the Dentist regarding needs, follow up, etc.
• Performs other assigned related duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

• Knowledge of and ability to utilize equipment required for the position, including but not limited to Cavitron, Autoclave, Suction Aspirator, Water & Air Spray equipment, water distiller, X-Ray Processor, and Personal computer.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Registered as a Dental Hygienist with Florida Licensure.
