Software Engineer, Customer Studio Backend

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer, Customer Studio Backend based in United States. This is a senior backend engineering opportunity focused on building the systems behind a rapidly growing customer data product. You’ll work on distributed systems, data warehouse performance, real-time data processing, analytics, experimentation, and AI-powered experiences. The role combines deep technical ownership with strong product involvement, giving you a direct connection to product specifications and user feedback. You’ll help improve how customers activate warehouse data without requiring advanced SQL expertise. The environment is fast-moving and highly collaborative, with opportunities to influence architecture and mentor other engineers. You’ll have significant autonomy while working on technically challenging problems involving scale, reliability, and interactivity. The role is remote within the United States or Canada, with a San Francisco option also available. Accountabilities - Design, build, and evolve robust backend systems and distributed architectures supporting customer-facing data activation workflows. - Improve data warehouse performance and interactivity through query optimization, pre-computed state, and warehouse-specific technical enhancements. - Develop analytics and experimentation capabilities that enable customers to create segments and measure audience performance across downstream destinations. - Help advance real-time audience computation and synchronization as modern warehouses adopt change data capture (CDC) and real-time technologies. - Explore and implement generative AI capabilities that make working with and activating customer data more seamless. - Translate product specifications and user feedback into scalable backend solutions, balancing technical quality with customer needs. - Engage directly with users when appropriate to understand problems, validate solutions, and improve the product experience.

- Contribute to architectural decisions, reliability improvements, and the evolution of backend and distributed systems. - Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership, with potential opportunities to progress into people management over time. Requirements - 6–15 years of professional backend engineering experience, including substantial experience designing backend systems in high-growth startup environments, particularly Series B–E companies. - Demonstrated staff-level scope, ownership, and technical impact, with a history of taking on increasing responsibility quickly. - Very strong systems design and distributed systems fundamentals. - Strong backend engineering focus, with experience centered on backend systems rather than primarily full-stack development, data engineering, or DevOps. - A product-oriented mindset, with the ability to design technical solutions around user needs and incorporate direct customer feedback. - Experience working with data warehouses, SQL, large-scale data processing, or related data-intensive systems. - Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and product functions. - Ability to learn quickly, operate independently, and navigate complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline from a strong academic program. - Familiarity with change data capture, real-time data architectures, or large-scale data processing systems is a plus. Benefits - Base compensation of $180,000–$320,000 , depending on relevant factors. - Meaningful ISO equity with early-exercise availability and a 10-year exercise window. - Remote work opportunity within the United States or Canada, with an option to work from San Francisco.
