Bus Aide

The Bus Aide assists in the safe and pleasant transportation of students.

Essential Functions:

• Performs safe, routine loading and unloading of passengers.
• Monitors students on the bus; ensures safe, orderly conduct of students while on bus.
• Assists bus driver with operation of wheelchair lift.
• Assists bus driver with student supervision and discipline.
• Checks the entire bus for passengers and belongings at the end of each trip.
• Assists bus driver with bus cleaning.
• Reports accidents and incidents promptly, following appropriate reporting procedure.
• Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Training and Experience:

• High School Diploma.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

• Valid CPR and First Aide certifications.

Knowledge Of:

• State and local vehicle regulations regarding pupil bus transportation.

Skill In:

• Working with special needs students.
• Successfully addressing emergencies in bus operation.
• Recognizing potential problems and prevent hazards.
• Must be alert, careful, and dedicated to students' safety.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; maintaining rapport and composure with parents, students, staff, vendors and the general public.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and travel.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
