Nurse Educator (Sterile Processing Service)

Summary The Nurse (Sterile Processing Service Educator) delivers a fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and serves as a lifelong learner, adapting learning strategies based on assessed needs. The role assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training for Sterile Processing and clinical staff. Qualifications English language proficiency (basic written and spoken English) Graduate of an accredited professional nursing school (ACEN or CCNE) and holder of a state license Master’s level bridge program candidates may become registered as a nurse prior to completion of the bridge program, with appointment on a temporary basis and later conversion to permanent Foreign nursing graduates: current, full, active, and unrestricted registration or formal degree equivalency validation (e.g., ICD) and a US state license Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exemption for candidates lacking licensure within a 120‑day temporary appointment, extendable up to two years Grade determination based on scope, education, and dimension criteria as defined in VA qualification standards Preferred experience: Sterile Processing, Operating Room, and infection prevention, and prior experience as an educator Duties Demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex patient care through education and training Design, implement, and evaluate educational instruction for Sterile Processing staff Develop and coordinate educational trainings based on identified learning needs Conduct learning needs assessments, orient new employees, and develop learning plans Monitor and track education requirements in compliance with organizational standards Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and other SPS Nurse Educators in ongoing education activities, including in‑services, training, competency assessments, and evaluations Identify educational training needs and support activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision‑making Review literature for evidence‑based practice and propose practice and documentation revisions Evaluate current practice and formulate outcomes for Sterile Processing employees and processes Mentor and develop coaching skills, fostering competence, critical thinking, and decision‑making within staff Benefits Competitive salary with regular increases and potential performance awards Paid time off: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays) Retirement: traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution Health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care insurance, and other federal benefits available throughout employment and into retirement Full and unrestricted State license required (any US State, Territory, or Commonwealth) Work schedule: Monday—Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; compressed hours may be authorized after full training Telework, virtual work, or PCS not authorized #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
