Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for performing basic nursing duties. This includes executing physician orders and assisting with examinations and treatments. The role involves operating pill and sick call, and performing technical and clinical procedures. The nurse assists in managing the facility medical department and cares for inmates/residents. Inmates/residents are seen during sick call to prepare for examinations and treatments. Medication is dispensed, and documentation is completed as required by applicable policies. Medical supplies and equipment must be controlled and inventoried in accordance with established procedures. Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and equipment and work areas must be kept clean. All activities are documented and reported following established policies and procedures. The nurse aids in evaluating the provision of all medical services. Maintaining security and confidentiality of all medical records is essential. Observations and recordings of inmate/resident behavior are required. The medical unit must be inspected for potential contraband items. Standard records and reports are to be prepared and maintained using appropriate grammar. Medical and technical procedures, along with governmental regulations, must be read and interpreted. The nurse may respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings when necessary. Effective communication with administration, staff, inmates/residents, and the public is essential. Safety requirements necessary for a safe working environment must be evaluated and recommended. The nurse assists with preparing safety and accident reports per policies and procedures. Inmates/residents are escorted for medical treatment, coordinating their movement as necessary. Investigations and inquiries are to be initiated with accuracy and independent judgment exercised. Working rotating shifts and checking security measures in confined areas is required. Verbal abuse may occur from the hostile views of inmates/residents and others.

Primary shift could be days or nights; determined by facility needs. Candidates must have open availability for scheduling. US Citizenship is required for clearance. Candidates will be subject to thorough background and credit investigation for clearance. Clearance is expected to take 4-6 weeks.
