Position Overview

Job Title: PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON, CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (INTERNAL MED/FAMILY PRACTICE) – Additional/Dual Appointment at High Desert State Prison (HDSP)

Classification: PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON, CORRECTIONAL FACILITY (INTERNAL MED/FAMILY PRACTICE)

Salary: $153.91 – $171.00 per hour (new to state candidates hired at minimum salary or alternate range minimum)

Work Location: In‑office at High Desert State Prison, Susanville, CA

Job Type: Limited term, up to 40 hours per month, possible extension.

Responsibilities

• Provide internal medicine and family medicine clinical care to the incarcerated population in a correctional facility setting.
• Respond to medical emergencies and routine health needs as scheduled.
• Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with state regulations.
• Collaborate with facility medical staff and prison administration to coordinate care and health education.
• Participate in health promotion, disease prevention, and rehabilitation programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• MD or DO licensed to practice medicine in California, with valid Internal Medicine or Family Medicine specialty certificate.
• Completed residency in internal medicine or family medicine.
• Eligible for a dual appointment with the California state health system, not serving as a supervisor, manager, or executive.
• Ability to work up to 40 hours per month, outside normal hours.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in correctional or community health settings.
• Additional certifications in preventive medicine or public health.
