Associate Veterinarian - South Sacramento Pet Hospital

Position Overview Associate Veterinarian – South Sacramento Pet Hospital, Sacramento, California We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Associate Veterinarian to join our team. The candidate will provide high‑quality veterinary care, communicate effectively with clients, and collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Communicate and educate clients about diagnosis and treatment Conduct diagnostic procedures and surgery when required Maintain accurate medical records and pharmacy duties, including prescription and controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor hospital protocols from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to ensure high standards Participate in practice‑management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by management Qualifications (Required) Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited institution Current state veterinary license DEA registration 1+ year of experience in a veterinary practice Strong diagnostic, clinical, surgical, and dental skills Team‑oriented work style with excellent interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high‑quality care Capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Expertise in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other examinations with appropriate treatment planning Problem‑solving ability for high‑quality hospital management Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff Professionalism with constructive feedback skills Business acumen related to practice finances and management Ethical decision‑making in patient care Commitment to continuing education and peer learning Compensation Salary Range: $170,000 – $200,000 USD per year No negative accrual and no non‑compete Generous sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance Benefits Signing, retention, and relocation packages up to $100,000 Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster) 401(k) with discretionary contribution Team member pet discounts Emotional wellbeing support, including Calm app access and 24/7 EAP CE stipends and career development resources Grant Circle – a relief fund for personal hardship Supportive local hospital culture backed by national resources Equal Opportunity Employer PetVet is an equal opportunity employer.
