VP of Robotics Research

Role Overview

Lead the research team building the data foundations for robot learning. This core-team role sets the technical vision for a Robotics Data Engine, shaping how robotics data is collected, represented, evaluated, and scaled to support increasingly capable robotic systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute research strategy for robotics data, embodied AI, and robot learning.
• Lead research spanning robotics datasets, multimodal representations, perception, manipulation, and data-centric learning.
• Build, mentor, and develop a Robotics Research team with a culture of scientific rigor, curiosity, and rapid experimentation.
• Create approaches to collect robotics data through teleoperation, human demonstrations, simulation, autonomous exploration, and real-world deployments.
• Design scalable data pipelines, including collection workflows, task taxonomies, annotation schemas, quality controls, evaluation methods, and delivery formats.
• Convert research and client objectives into data requirements, collection strategies, labeling standards, and success metrics.
• Partner with research, engineering, product, and operations teams to deliver production-ready robotics data solutions.
• Establish benchmarks and evaluation frameworks for measuring and improving robot-learning performance.
• Assess emerging robotics literature, datasets, and techniques from academic and industry research.
• Promote technical excellence through documentation, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional communication.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in robotics research, embodied AI, robot learning, or robotics software engineering.
• Experience leading or mentoring high-performing technical or research teams.
• Deep knowledge of robotics data pipelines, multimodal datasets, and data infrastructure for robot learning.
• Expertise in robot perception, manipulation, control, imitation learning, reinforcement learning, or robotics foundation models.
• Experience designing and evaluating large-scale robotics datasets and collection strategies.
• Ability to translate advanced research concepts into scalable engineering systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
• A passion for advancing embodied intelligence through research and data-driven methods.
• Preferred: a master''s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; publications are also preferred.

Work Terms

• Full-time, remote role.

Compensation

• Annual compensation of $1, 500, 000 to $4, 000, 000.
