After-School SHSAT Lead Class Teacher

Guide Students to Success!

Manhattan-based education company is looking to staff after-school (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 4pm for the fall; expanded options in the winter) SHSAT in-person classes. We are seeking to engage a responsible, organized educator who has a passion for teaching and a winning personality. We are interested in a presentable teacher who is engaging, enthusiastic, and articulate.

As the teacher for this course, you will be responsible for

• engaging students to learn from a provided curriculum in a patient, affirming manner
• leading classrooms (12-18 students) through ELA and/or Math instruction
• resolving classroom management matters with your Teaching Assistant and/or Operations Associate
• communicate with management about the course progress, student behavior, and other relevant matters

Benefits

Consistency in an inconsistent field: it can be difficult to cobble together enough hours in this industry. Our classes happen regularly throughout the year, even during the traditionally "slow" periods.

Our courses each comprise 26 non-consecutive weekly classes, each 2.5 hours long, for a total of 65 hours per cohort per school year (September-June).

High compensation rewards you for your experience! Pay ranges from $80-100 per hour, according to the following schedule (this only applies to SHSAT classes):

• Up to three weekly SHSAT classes: $80 per hour
• Fourth, fifth and sixth concurrent weekly SHSAT classes: $90 per hour
• Seventh and all subsequent concurrent weekly SHSAT classes: $100 per hour

Our most prolific teachers have taught up to 9 cohorts per week, for a total of over $40,000 from September - June! (Please note that a portion of the above-listed comp is tied to a completion bonus at the end of each semester.)

Quality materials and support: work with the most reputable enrichment program in Manhattan. You'll have support staff like Teaching Assistants and Operations Associates to help you with the program.

Plus: work as many hours as you want! You are welcome to contract for as many or as few engagements as you’d like.

(Note that this is a contract-based, 1099 position. You will have flexibility and control over your schedule. You will not be eligible for any employee-based benefits such as PTO or health benefits.)

Requirements

We're looking for someone who

• has at least a four-year degree from a prestigious university/college
• has at least 3 years' post-collegiate classroom teaching experience
• has excellent references and will pass a background check
• has extensive experience in helping students prepare for entrance exams (preferably the SHSAT specifically)
• is available to travel to in-person class locations in Manhattan (especially Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for the fall)
• can commit to at least one entire semester (September-October; November-March; April-June)
• is fluent with a writing stylus, as all of our classes utilize digital whiteboards
• has access to their own technology assets (a WiFi-enabled laptop or tablet that can run Zoom, PDF reader/editor, with HDMI or similar capability; a stylus similar to this:

Additional Qualities You Bring to the Table

We're searching high and low for a reliable, organized, and experienced educator who is passionate and approachable. Our ideal candidate is dynamic and engaging. The successful applicant will be able to hold their own in front of students and deliver content in a dynamic and engaging manner.

Bonus Points If...

• You have experience with other entrance exams, like the ISEE/SSAT, HSPT/TACHS, and ACT/SAT
• You have experience helping students with their academic studies as well! Subjects include, but are not limited to:
  • Math: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB/BC
  • ELA: Common Core State Exams, general reading comprehension, essay writing, AP Language, AP Literature
  • Science: AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics
