ISO/NSF Quality Systems & Laboratory Lead

Location: Beaumont, TX | Reports to: Operations Manager | Compensation: $90,000–$95,000 + bonus + benefits

Role snapshot

• Own the site’s ISO 9000 quality system and NSF program while leading day-to-day operations for both the Main Laboratory and the Control Room Laboratory.
• Supervise and develop one Laboratory Technician and train Analysts and Operators on approved procedures.
• Deliver accurate, timely analyses for raw materials, in-process streams, and finished products—every time.
• Interface directly with customers to resolve quality issues, manage SBS lotting, and issue COAs for each shipment.

Key outcomes in your first year

• All compendia methods are current, controlled, and executed exactly as written; annual Analyst certifications completed.
• Robust system for OOS investigations with complete documentation in DMS (SharePoint) and clear corrective actions.
• Predictive maintenance schedule implemented for critical instruments; vendor recommendations closed on time.
• NSF files and registered formulations up to date; annual samples submitted; successful auditor interfaces.
• Internal audits scheduled and completed; CAPA system driving measurable improvements; quarterly management reviews facilitated.

Core responsibilities

• Author, revise, and govern lab SOPs; verify test execution aligns with written procedures and compendia methods.
• Oversee calibrations and troubleshooting for complex analytical instruments; perform minor repairs and PM.
• Coordinate external lab testing and data reporting; maintain customer specifications and COA archives.
• Update customer specifications within SAP; coordinate SBS lot assignment and shipments with customers.
• Analyze storm water and generate summaries for monthly DMR submission.
• Lead or support process troubleshooting with Operations and other site teams.
• Manage lab inventory: quotes, purchase requisitions, and receiving.

Improvement & technical projects

• Interaction modeling for site products: setup, analytical measurement, data evaluation, and reporting.
• Alternative test method exploration, including partnerships with instrument manufacturers and rigorous QA/QC verification.
• Laboratory hazardous waste minimization initiatives.
• Lean Six Sigma participation to improve lab and plant processes.
• Implementation of new equipment maintenance procedures/practices.

Quality system leadership

• NSF stewardship: raw material reviews, formulation updates, file maintenance, annual sample submission, and auditor interface.
• ISO calibration system oversight; training toward Chemtrade ISO auditor.
• QMS leadership: registrar/auditor communications, CAPA program ownership, internal audit scheduling, and quarterly management reviews.

Cross-functional coverage

Provide backup for the Traffic & Inventory Coordinator during vacations or illness.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
• 3–5 years in chemical manufacturing or a closely related setting.
• Leadership, team development, and communication strengths.
• Calibration expertise, instrument troubleshooting, and analytical method proficiency.
• Detail orientation, adaptability, initiative, and strong math skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred

• BS in Engineering.
• SAP S/4 experience.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, RC 14001, or related management systems.
• MSA basics; knowledge of plant operations and SPC.
• Experience authoring and reviewing SOPs.

Physical demands & work environment

• Frequent standing; occasional prolonged standing in one position; occasional stair climbing.
• Lift/move up to 50 lbs as needed.
• Close vision and color recognition required.
• Capable of long hours standing/sitting; fit for duty; safety is mandatory.
• Adhere to safety requirements; work in confined spaces, outdoors, noisy areas, dusty/odorous zones, and adverse weather; laboratory setting work required.
