Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum three (3) years of relevant nursing experience License: State RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - CARE PLAN DEVELOPMENT - CRITICAL THINKING - NURSING - PATIENT CARE - PATIENT ASSESSMENT Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial, and human resources within the institution's philosophy. Responsibilities include performing all required duties specific to the scope of service on the unit. The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is essential to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. An initial assessment is completed upon patient admission, followed by the development of an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs. The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifications to the plan of care are made based on continuous evaluation. The RN ensures patient and employee safety by reporting and correcting safety hazards and incidents. Effective communication with others is essential for resolving issues directly and in private when necessary. Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers, and collaboration with colleagues is encouraged to expand knowledge. The RN identifies personal learning needs and takes the initiative to begin appropriate solutions. All departmental competency requirements must be fulfilled. Receiving patient Bedside Shift Report from an RN at the beginning of each shift ensures inclusion of patient input, visual validation of a safe patient environment at shift change, and updating of the patient communication board in each room. The RN delegates patient care tasks to assigned team members and validates completion of these tasks throughout the shift. Basic RN patient care activities such as assessments, vital signs interpretation, physician order completion, patient admissions and discharges, hourly rounding, care plan documentation, and patient education must be completed and documented. The RN meets documentation standards for each assigned patient. Patient medications are administered utilizing the 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time. Patient safety is the highest priority, including compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and patient ambulation safety. A positive attitude is maintained at all times to promote a healthy work environment and healing patient environment. Prompt answering of patient call lights ensures effective triage and completion of patient requests and medical needs. Critical thinking is used to evaluate overall patient condition, and nursing judgment is applied to identify and act on changes in patient status. Effective communication within the healthcare team promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and safety. Competent care is provided for patients displaying mild to severe brain injuries due to stroke, trauma, or surgery. Neurological changes and seizure activity are specifically identified and responded to immediately.
