Job Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the firm, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining general ledger accounts, process monthly billings and assisting with financial analysis and project accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

· Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.

· Reconcile credit card statements, and balance sheet/income statement accounts monthly.

· Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

· Prepare and analyze financial reports.

· Support budget and forecast preparation.

Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

· Review employee expense reports.

· Serve as backup for our Accounts Payable Specialist.

· Assist with customer invoicing and collections activities.

· Monitor accounts receivable aging reports and resolve past due balances.

Project Accounting

· Support project managers with project cost tracking and reporting.

· Assist with WIP reporting and project profitability analysis.

· Help ensure compliance with contract billing requirements.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

· Assist with monthly financial statements and management reports.

· Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.

· Maintain records in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

 

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or related accounting field.

Experience: 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in an engineering, consulting, construction, professional services, or project-based environment.

· Strong understanding of GAAP.

· Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

· Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency.

· Proficiency with Adobe.

· Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

· Experience with ERP/accounting software. Deltek Vantagepoint experience preferred.
