Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role may require floating to additional units and locations

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: - First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience with Epic or Cerner experience; if strictly ICU experience, Cerner is required. - 6 North Trauma Surgical: at least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: - 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: chemo experience highly preferred.

Special Requests: - You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. - Must be gone from Baptist for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. - Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. - Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval. - Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day: 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day (week): 2/13 -16; Entire month of March; Easter Weekend: 4/18 – 20; Mother’s Day Weekend: 5/10-12; Memorial Day (week): 5/24 – 5/26; Father’s Day Weekend: 6/14-16; Fourth of July: 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend: 8/30-9/1; Halloween: 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving: 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s: 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: - Float pool home units may include 6 North Trauma Surgical: general surgery and vascular surgeries; patient ratio 1:5-6. Skills include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. - 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post trauma, and angiogram; patient ratio 1:5-6. Skills include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tube, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints. - 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: all patient types except stroke and MI, plus palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, and MS/Oncology patients; ratio 1:6 for RN and LPNs. Skills include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemo administration if certified. Telemetry monitoring is on hallway monitors and by telemetry techs on the ground floor. - 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: general MedSurg including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; patient ratio 1:5-6. Skills include tracheotomy care, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, external catheter care, PEG/NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management/preventive measures, falls prevention management, and restraints. - 3 South Orthopedics: orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; patient ratio 1:5, 1:6 if MedSurg. Skills include PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, Foley, and drains (hemovacs/JP drains). - 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: urology, ENT, ortho, and MedSurg; patient ratio 1-5:6. Skills include trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and nurse-driven Foley protocol. - Unit support includes CNAs (1:6 for VS, ADLs, glucose checks), receptionist/HUC, charge nurse who rarely takes an assignment, phlebotomy, IV/VAT, hospitalists, and telemetry techs. RNs are required to interpret and confirm q4 hour strip readings. - Equipment includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: - Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. - Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. - No call. - One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.

Floating Requirements: - Any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

7 days maximum time off.
