School Health Assistant

We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, outreach workers, screening and prevention specialists who accomplish this by providing and coordinating specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

The School Health Assistant provides health care services to students and school communities served by the Multnomah Education Service District.

This position is subject to board policies, administrative rules and procedures, department regulations, and applicable state and federal statutes. This position carries no administrative authority or responsibility.

Essential job functions include administering and documenting student medications, performing first aid and delegated health care tasks, assisting with immunization management, providing emergency care, completing daily electronic health record documentation, communicating necessary information, utilizing personal safety techniques, consistently communicating in a professional manner, demonstrating ability to manage multiple tasks, and ability to work without direct supervision.

Other job functions include attending department and other staff meetings and performing other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include successfully completing training for medication administration, emergency glucagon providers, and treatment of severe allergic reactions, being at least 18 years of age, following verbal and written instructions, having a valid driver's license and vehicle available for use on the job, computer skills, good penmanship, and maintaining satisfactory attendance.

Desired qualifications include bilingual, bicultural preference, current CPR/AED certification, and experience working in the health or medical field.

Education and experience include a high school diploma or G.E.D., experience working in the health or medical field, and at least 1 year experience working with groups of children in a professional or volunteer capacity.

Working conditions include sitting, walking, and occasionally lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 40 pounds, and may work with high-stress students, families, or personnel situations.
