Facility Overview: This facility is a 492-bed hospital, equipped with a Level I Trauma Center, a Level III NICU, and recognized as a Primary Stroke Center.

Unit Information

• 6 North Trauma Surgical
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
  • Skills Required: At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations
• 5 South Neuroscience
  • Beds: 33
  • Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post trauma, angiogram
  • Skills Required: IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, Colostomy/Ostomy, wound care, chest tube care, surgical site care, C-Collar, abdominal binders, restraints
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology
  • Beds: 39 (2 Charge RNs, no patient assignment)
  • Patient Types: All patient types except stroke and MI, including palliative care and ETOH withdrawal
  • Skills Required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts; chemo administration preferred if certified
• 3 South Orthopedic
  • Beds: 20
  • Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine, including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies
  • Skills Required: PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, foley care, drains
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology
  • Beds: 23
  • Patient Types: Urology, ENT, orthopedic, MedSurg
  • Skills Required: Trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, adherence to nurse-driven foley protocol

Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU
• EPIC or Cerner experience required, with Cerner mandatory for strictly ICU experience
• Telemetry experience preferredif applicable, please elaborate on experience
• Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS

Support on the Unit

• CNA Ratio: 1:10-12 for vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks when available
• Receptionist/HUC: Yes
• Charge Nurse: Yes, rarely takes assignment
• Phlebotomy: Yes
• IV/VAT Team: Yes
• Hospitalist: Yes
• Telemetry Monitoring Tech: Yes

Technology and Equipment

• EMR: Cerner (EPIC experience considered)
• IV Pumps: Plum 360
• Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors: Spacelabs

Orientation and Scheduling

• First-time travelers will have 24 hours of classroom training and 24 hours on the unit
• Weekend Rotation: Every other or 4 weekend days per month
• Holiday Expectations: One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy; holiday scheduling is not guaranteed
• Shift Times: 7a-7p, 7p-7a
