Tear Down Supervisor
Spire Motorsports is looking for a Tear Down Supervisor to join our NASCAR Cup Series team and take ownership of the critical post-race process that gets our cars back into production each week.
This is a supervisor role for someone who can lead from the shop floor. You'll work alongside the Tear Down team while coordinating the people, priorities, and workflow necessary to ensure all three Cup cars are torn down, cleaned, inspected, measured, documented, and moved back into the production process on schedule.
The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical experience, attention to detail, and an understanding of the pace and precision required in a racing environment. You'll also work closely with Setup, Engineering, and other technical teams to keep information and cars moving through the shop efficiently.
If you're ready to combine your technical experience with greater leadership and ownership in a competitive NASCAR Cup Series environment, we'd like to hear from you.
Job Summary:
The Tear Down Supervisor is responsible for supervising and actively supporting the post-race teardown, cleaning, inspection, measurement, and documentation of all Cup cars. This role ensures each car is accurately processed and returned to the production workflow within the required weekly schedule while coordinating with Setup, Engineering, and other technical teams to support vehicle preparation, repairs, and dyno testing.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff in the department.
- Oversee the daily workflow and production schedules of the department.
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
- Promote a positive and safe work environment while motivating the team to achieve goals.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day supervision, work direction, and support to employees assigned to Tear Down operations.
- Plan and prioritize daily workload to ensure all three Cup cars move through the teardown and post-race process within the required weekly schedule.
- Manage employee timesheets, time-off requests, scheduling needs, and other routine team needs.
- Monitor work quality, productivity, accuracy, and completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Provide hands-on instruction, coaching, and technical support to team members.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement within the Tear Down area.
- Actively perform and lead post-race teardown procedures on Cup cars, disassembling vehicles methodically and efficiently.
- Coordinate the overall weekly tear down workflow to ensure all Cup cars are torn down, cleaned, measured, inspected, documented and distributed back into the production system with the required timeframe.
- Clean and wash all disassembled parts, removing debris from chassis, clips, underwing, and wheel tubs.
- Wipe down chassis and clips using SD-20, brake cleaner and other approved materials to prepare vehicles and components for inspection and measurement.
- Conduct detailed inspections to identify wear, damage, or performance issues, documenting findings accurately to support engineering analysis.
- Inspect, identify and document all required chassis repairs and communicate repair needs to the appropriate technical team.
- Perform and support post-race vehicle measurements and ensure required measurements are accurately entered into the system.
- Work closely with the Setup team to ensure post-race measurements, documentation, and related activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Lead dyno preparation activities and coordinate the work necessary to prepare vehicles for dyno testing.
- Participate directly in dyno preparation and testing activities as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of vehicle condition, measurements, disassembled parts, repairs, and maintenance history.
- Communicate observations and collaborate with Setup, Engineering, and other technical teams regarding vehicle condition, repairs, adjustments, and production requirements.
- Identify workflow issues or potential delays and take appropriate action to keep vehicles moving through the weekly production schedule.
- Manage tools and equipment to ensure proper maintenance, organization, availability, and accountability.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment and ensure team members follow established safety practices.
- Assist with shop upkeep, cleaning, general maintenance, parts pickup, engine pickup, and other operational needs as required.
- Work efficiently and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while balancing hands-on responsibilities with team leadership.
- Participate in and help drive continuous improvement efforts to improve teardown accuracy, quality, efficiency, and workflow.
- Support team operations by running errands, picking up parts, and assisting with chassis dyno testing or engine pickup as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols during teardown and inspection activities.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support overall team success
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude and understanding of race vehicle teardown, inspection, and preparation processes.
- Ability to lead employees while remaining actively engaged in day-to-day technical work.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple vehicles and workstreams within a time-sensitive weekly production schedule.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong sense of accountability, reliability, and ownership.
- Ability to identify issues, determine priorities, and take appropriate action without requiring continuous direction.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively across Setup, Engineering, and other technical functions.
- Ability to provide clear work direction, instruction, and feedback to team members.
- Team-oriented and outgoing
- Proactive attitude towards tasks and challenges
