About the Job: The Internship Coordinator will manage BSW and or MSW Student Interns to broaden and increase program capacity and resident impact for the Hope Through Housing Foundation. Primary responsibilities include overseeing intern activities, conduct onboarding training, intern placement, provide general supervision, and tracking hours served. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Director of Resident Services and Permanent Supportive Housing.RESPONSIBILITIES The Internship Coordinator is responsible for building and implementing strategies designed to further the programs mission, goal, and visibility. The coordinator will develop, review, and implement policies and procedures pertaining to interns. This will include managing, training, coaching, and training employees in intern and policies and procedures. This position may also be assigned other responsibilities concerning interns per guidance by the Director of Resident Services and Permanent Supportive Housing.
Recruitment, Placement & Training
- Research, develop and implement opportunities where internships will meet Hope Through Housings community impact goals in the areas of at-risk youth, economic mobility and senior health and wellness.
- Develop recruitment and screening processes for internship program needs.
- Collaborate with department leaders to draft and develop intern roles and descriptions as needed.
- Orient interns to the organization, its services, and their roles and responsibilities.
- Manage the placement and support of interns to ensure personal and professional success.
- Research and identify opportunities to expand internship programs.
- Meet with students/interns weekly and provide general supervision.
- Select specific assignments (cases, groups, community, and policy projects) throughout the year for student interns.
- Oversee administrative aspects of students performance.
- Provide timely review and provision of feedback on student field assignments.
- Develop, review, and implement policies and procedures pertaining to volunteers, and/or interns.
- Develop and maintain processes and tools to evaluate program effectiveness that result in recommendations to leadership for program changes and improvements.
- Support and reinforce all interns entering data into data system in a timely and compliant manner. Additionally, support a culture of utilizing data in a meaningful way that impacts quality of services.
- Serve as primary point of contact to university internship programs, ensuring all program requirements and deadlines are met.
- Serve as community ambassador, developing relationships resulting in in-kind service/product donations and financial contributions.
- Community Building Support social events and community engagement opportunities designed to build greater community among residents.
- Must attend Company sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from time to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employees home.
- Complete necessary training by partner organizations to stay in compliance with volunteer and intern program agreements and maintain a relevant level of volunteer and intern management best practices.
- Participate in annual training focused on core modalities such as Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Harm Reduction and other applicable professional development opportunities.
- Develop annual professional objectives and associated strategies to achieve them through learning and development.
- Demonstrated track record and passion for working with vulnerable populations with complex needs.
- Must have leadership qualities and a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and document management skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other HOPE staff, National CORE staff, public officials, private sector officials, parents, and community leaders.
- Prior experience supervising and or managing interns.
- Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to meet the needs of a diverse, low-income population.
- Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others.
- Ability to write clear, grammatically correct administrative tasks including but not limited to professional emails to internal and external stakeholders, meeting minutes, flyers, case notes, reports, narratives, social media posts.
- Ability to use Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel, and other basic computer software programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is preferred.
- Bachelors degree in public health, human behavior, psychology, social work, or related field is desirable.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience within volunteers, social services, homeless services and/or a supportive/ emergency housing setting is required.
- Demonstrated experience working and managing interns - within a social service, supportive / emergency housing.
- Requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to interface professionally with residents, staff, donors, external groups, and partners.
- Be able and willing to work flexible hours which may include evenings or weekends.
