Job Details Operating Room Registered Nurse – Abington Hospital – 36 hours per week – Day Shift – Level Two Hospital. Overview With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, the professional nurse uses the nursing process to value the uniqueness of each patient and address their physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs. The nurse develops nursing plans of care with the patient and their designated care partner(s) to effectively address individualized needs and priorities, consistent with their cultural beliefs and values. Responsibilities Interact with co-workers, patients, their family/designated care partner(s), and other staff in a manner consistent with the values of Jefferson. Integrate evidence-based practice, clinical expertise, patient preferences, and cultural beliefs and values into the delivery of optimal healthcare. Partner with patients and their families/partners in identifying learning needs and priorities, and provide education that is useful, understandable, and affirming. Minimize risk of harm to patients and others by following established nursing practices, protocols, and individual performance standards. Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate errors, and support ethical decision making. Use data to monitor care outcomes, and apply improvement methods to design and test changes that continuously improve quality and safety. Function effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, fostering open communication, mutual respect, and shared decision-making to achieve quality patient care. Recognize patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for their personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values. Create an environment of belonging and inclusion, demonstrating skills in problem solving and conflict resolution. Demonstrate a commitment to learning and seek opportunities for continued professional growth and development; act in a preceptor role to train appropriate staff members. Actively participate in hospital- and practice setting-based committees, including safety and quality improvement. Demonstrate willingness to give and receive feedback and integrate appropriate changes into practice. Minimum Qualifications Specialized Diploma and Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Patient-and Family‑Centered Practice knowledge: ability to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family, and/or designated care partner in care planning. Cultural awareness: knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively. Effective communication: understanding of communication concepts, tools, and techniques, and ability to transmit, receive, and interpret information accurately. Patient assessment and care: knowledge of assessing ailments and injuries and implementing a treatment plan. Patient and designated care partner education: knowledge of child and adult education techniques and ability to elicit learning priorities and educate on condition, treatment, medications, and next steps. Medication administration and prescription: knowledge of medications used to treat patients and ability to apply this knowledge in administration and prescription for continuing treatment outside the hospital. Discharge planning: knowledge of post‑discharge needs and ability to partner with patient and family to develop a discharge plan and arrange follow‑up care. Assessment and diagnosis: knowledge of assessment tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgement. Health information documentation: knowledge of relevant documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and results electronically or in written form. BLS – Basic Life Support certification. AHA – American Heart Association certification. RN – Licensed Registered Nurse; PA – State of Pennsylvania license. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) or completion of BSN or appropriate advanced degree within 3 years of hire. 1 year of previous experience as an RN in an acute care setting. Additional qualifications: active RN license required in state of practice. Physical Demands Lift and carry 40‑50 lbs. Examples: push/pull patients on bed or stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters may walk 8‑10 miles per shift. Activities may include kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
