Position Summary
This position will serve as a lab manager position in the Evolutionary Immunogenomics Lab (PI: Dr. Tauras Vilgalys) in the Department of Genetics. This is a heavily collaborative research environment which employs immunological and genomic approaches to understand the evolution of primates and other species. Our goal is to discover how natural populations resist infectious diseases and use those insights to improve human health. Responsibilities will be to conduct research, develop new genomics and immunological assays, and oversee general management of the lab. The successful candidate will play an essential role in establishing the wet lab, generating new data, and helping train undergraduate and rotation students.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Ability to effectively communicate, maintain accurate documentation, and pay attention to detail. Experience in a biological research lab, including molecular biology, cell culture, immunological assays, and genomic library preparation. Ability to work independently on research and lab management tasks.

Physical Demands
Normal lab activity, which includes sitting/standing for long periods and wearing protective equipment (e.g., gloves, masks, and safety goggles).

• Working independently, this position will organize and assist in the implementation of research projects, including data collection and project management.
• Read and develop a basic understanding of research project protocols.
• Maintain accurate records on research projects.
• Independently carry out and troubleshoot experiments, including developing new genomic and immunological assays.
• Generate data for projects in the lab.

• Maintain lab safety compliance, the inventory and purchase of lab supplies, and ensure overall organization (e.g., wash glassware, prepare basic solutions, and media, take away the trash, etc.). Serve as the point of contact for administrative and infrastructure needs.
