Must-Have: Must have at least 2 years of Emergency Department experience for contract positions. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications are required for contract labor. Strong adaptability and communication skills with patients and peers are essential. Strong assessment, critical thinking skills, and understanding of medical terminology are needed. Dependability and punctuality are crucial.

Description: The Emergency Department has a total of 4 beds in a secure locked psychiatric area for holding placements. There are 25 procedure rooms that can be either curtained or have doors. Additionally, 8 hallway beds are utilized 24/7. The staff consists of 88 individuals across various job titles. During the 7:00 AM - 3:00 AM shift, there are 1 Charge RN, 7 RNs, and 3 ED Technicians. In the Annex, there is 1 RN and 1 ED Technician. During the 3:00 AM - 7:00 AM shift, there are 1 Charge RN, 6 RNs, and 2 ED Technicians. The Annex also has 1 RN and 1 ED Technician during this shift. Patient-to-nurse ratios are flexible based on acute surge situations, typically at 4:1. The equipment utilized includes ultrasound technology, IV skills, Lucas devices, and infusion pumps. The patient population presents with multiple comorbidities, including complicated heart conditions, DKA, sepsis, trauma, and stroke. Typical procedures performed include trauma care, laceration repair, orthopedic trauma management, and EKGs. The ideal candidate is a motivated hard worker, a creative problem solver, and has a genuine desire to help and care for patients. Weekends will be required every other weekend for contract labor positions. For hired staff, weekends will be needed every third weekend. Unit guidelines allow RNs to work with policy-written protocols based on chief complaints. RNs will be able to order complete workups of labs, EKGs, x-rays, and medications to initiate patient care.
