Job Title: Psychiatric Technician
Job Description
The Psychiatric Technician provides high-quality patient care in a behavioral health facility by supervising and guiding patients while maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. This role works as part of a patient care team, supports daily program activities, and assists with basic clinical tasks under the direction of management. The position operates on day shift with an additional shift differential beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision and guidance to patients during daily program activities
- Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment on the unit at all times.
- Document objective patient care information in a clear, competent, and professional manner.
- Understand and implement all emergency policies and procedures, including responding appropriately during emergency situations.
- Ensure that emergency restrictive devices are available on the unit each shift, are in good working order, and are used according to policy and under proper direction.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership and team members to structure, monitor, and support the overall unit milieu and therapeutic program.
- Report difficulties or concerns in working with specific patients to the Registered Nurse and/or designated team leader for guidance and support.
- Participate in the training, mentoring, and orientation of new staff members as directed by organizational leadership.
- Monitor and document patient activities on the milieu, including routine checks and any specialized observation needs as assigned.
- Monitor and record vital signs according to established guidelines and under the clinical direction of the Registered Nurse.
Essential Skills
- Ability to provide consistent supervision and guidance to patients in a behavioral health setting.
- Strong focus on safety and the ability to maintain a therapeutic environment on the unit.
- Skill in observing, recognizing, and promptly reporting changes in patients’ psychiatric or medical status to a Registered Nurse.
- Understanding of emergency policies and procedures and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Ability to ensure emergency restrictive devices are available, functional, and used appropriately according to policy.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with nurses, team leaders, and co-workers in structuring and monitoring the unit milieu.
- Ability to assist patients with activities of daily living in a respectful and supportive manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Comfort working in a structured, team-based environment focused on patient safety and therapeutic care.
This is a Permanent position based out of Louisville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36212.80 - $38292.80/yr.
