Railserve is hiring a dependable and mechanically skilled Regional Traveling Locomotive Mechanic to support locomotive maintenance and repair operations across multiple customer locations. This is a full-time, hands-on traveling position responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives to help ensure safe, reliable equipment is available to support customer operations. This role requires regular regional travel and is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting equipment, working independently, and performing hands-on mechanical work in different operating environments.

The Regional Traveling Locomotive Mechanic is responsible for performing scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance on locomotives at customer and Railserve locations throughout an assigned region. This position diagnoses and repairs mechanical and electrical issues, performs preventive maintenance, communicates equipment status and repair needs, and helps ensure locomotives remain safe, reliable, and available for operation.

Because this is a regional traveling position, employees must be comfortable traveling regularly to different locations based on maintenance needs and customer priorities.

Schedule may vary based on operational and customer needs. Regular regional travel required. Nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.

$20.00 $30.00 per hour based on experience. Overtime eligible.

Perform scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance on company locomotives, including Gen-Set, SW, and GP models. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues affecting locomotive performance and reliability. Troubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutions. Travel to customer and Railserve locations to perform maintenance and repairs as needed. Communicate directly with customers regarding equipment status, upcoming repairs, and maintenance priorities. Perform inspections and identify potential mechanical, electrical, and safety concerns. Maintain accurate preventive maintenance checklists, invoices, shipping paperwork, expense reports, and other required documentation. Safely handle and dispose of environmental materials, including oil, diesel fuel, and other fluids. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, and other maintenance equipment. Conduct equipment safety assessments as directed. Recommend appropriate corrective actions when equipment or safety concerns are identified. Follow all company and customer safety procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment at all times. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability. Mechanical maintenance or repair experience preferred. Electrical troubleshooting experience is a plus. Associate degree or technical training in a mechanical-related field preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered. Valid driver's license required. Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned region. Ability to safely operate a cutting torch and electrical welder. Ability to understand and follow written instructions, maintenance procedures, and technical information. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and site leadership. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, and percentages. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues. Ability to work independently and manage changing priorities. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work around moving machinery, elevated work areas, fumes, fluids, and other industrial conditions. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and lifting. Ability to participate in Railserve's pre-employment screening process.

Regional travel is a regular part of this position. Work is performed at multiple customer and Railserve locations. Exposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditions. Frequent work around locomotives, moving machinery, tools, and industrial equipment. May require work at elevated locations or around fumes, oils, diesel fuel, and other industrial materials. Nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required based on operational needs. Required use of personal protective equipment. Safety-sensitive position requiring strict compliance with company and customer safety procedures.
