ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER

Position Type: SECONDARY TEACHER / ELA TEACHER Date Posted: 4/29/2026 Location: South Atlanta High School (High-Needs School) Atlanta Public Schools is looking for a self‑motivated English Language Arts teacher to provide face‑to‑face instruction with students in the school building. The candidate must be adaptable to changing school and district needs and able to create and maintain a climate that promotes respect, tolerance, and peaceful problem‑solving for all students, as well as teach Social Science courses. This position reports to the School Principal and will be physically present in the school building. Performance Responsibilities Reports in person to the school building to provide face‑to‑face instruction. Provides instruction simultaneously to in‑person and remote learning, if necessary. Responds to changing school and district instructional needs. Instructs students through lectures, discussions, visual aids, and other effective teaching methods to promote comprehension. Prepares lessons and outlines that effectively cover the material. Administers various assessments to monitor student comprehension. Monitors students in the classroom, at lunch, or throughout the school to maintain order and discipline. Performs administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and recording grades. Coordinates parent‑teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues. Attends faculty meetings and training sessions. Qualifications Minimum of a T4 Certification in Secondary English Language Arts. Or passed the GACE in Secondary English Language Arts (6‑8) or (6‑12). Zero (0) years of teaching experience. Essential Duties Instructs students in an in‑person classroom environment through lectures, discussions, visual aids, instructional strategies, and other effective teaching methods. Prepares lessons and outlines that effectively cover the material. Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress. Administers various assessments to monitor student comprehension. Administers and/or supports state and local testing processes and policies. Uses computers, audio‑visual aids, and other equipment to supplement presentations. Assists students who need extra help with tutoring. Guides and counsels students with adjustment or academic problems or special interests. In an in‑person classroom, cleans the classroom daily and wipes down surfaces to uphold sanitation standards. Monitors students to maintain order and discipline in the classroom and across the school. Observes and evaluates students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health. Performs administrative duties such as attendance, classroom organization, and timely response to emails and phone calls. Collaborates with other teachers and administrators to develop, evaluate, and revise academic programs following approved curricula. Coordinates in‑person conferences with parents and guardians to review student performance, behavior, and other issues. Attends in‑person faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences to improve professional competence. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct student records in compliance with laws, district policies, and regulations. Assists administrators and staff with the orderly, expedient, and safe transition of students from one location to another. Assists with training volunteers in‑person. Requires prompt, regular in‑person attendance and availability during regular business hours and as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
