School Bus Driver
Penns Valley Area School District typically drive daily from 6:00am - 8:30am and 2:00pm - 4:30PM. Drive assigned school vehicle in a safe, professional manner including complying with all traffic ordinances. Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering a passenger van. Perform and properly complete daily pre-trip inspections of vehicle, and inform maintenance department of any improper function at the earliest practical time after discovery. Report observations and/or incidents (e.g., discipline, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel. Comply with all discipline policies. Must be sensitive to confidential information (e.g., student medical records, student disabilities, etc.). Assist students and other passengers (e.g. seating, restraints, special equipment, etc.) for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from vehicles including both emergency situations and normal transport. Build and maintain positive relationships with the students assigned to the route. Effectively communicate with parents and school staff regarding student concerns, changes to the route and/or other pertinent information. Maintain assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior (e.g. cleaning floors/windows/seats, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle. Responsible for adding fuel to vehicle to ensure sufficient quantities for regular/extra runs. Responsible for written daily student attendance paperwork and monthly mileage sheets that must be submitted to transportation office one time per month. Attend training as required to perform job. Visual acuity to be able to see traffic signals and signs. Depth perception to be able to judge distance from objects. Fine and gross motor coordination. Must possess the emotional maturity and stability required to work with students who have special medical needs. Must be courteous and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, and school community. Must be cooperative and service-oriented. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Must have and maintain a valid PA drivers license and the ability to drive all district passenger vehicles. Ability to read and write.
