Pharmacy Technician

Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, performs a variety of technical and clerical duties allowable by law, while maintaining a favorable image of the pharmacy within the hospital and in the community.

Responsibilities include answering phones for the pharmacy department, maintaining knowledge of the Hospital Credit and Collection Policy, prepackaging, preparing, labeling, and handing out prescriptions, maintaining cash registers, preparing daily deposits, billing and crediting patient medications, stocking inventory, checking and removing outdated and expired medications, delivering medications, filing prescriptions, maintaining the pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion, entering outpatient prescriptions, obtaining and recording patient drug histories, triaging orders, performing calculations to determine the correct dose, identifying the appropriate product, triaging insurance rejections, using pharmaceutical-medical terms, maintaining knowledge of general chemical and physical properties of drugs, compounding medications, handling chemotherapeutic medications, coordinating ordering and delivery of medications, supplies, and equipment, completing intake process for mail service, specialty, transplant, and limited distribution pharmacy patients, documenting in the EMR or other database, performing patient tracking, processing of patient specialty medication claims, customer service, issue resolution and/or escalation, requesting and following up on refill requests, processing Medicare and transplant claims, and performing other responsibilities as assigned.
