Senior Mechanical Engineer SHAPE THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY FROM DAY ONE. This position is part of our Signal & Power Solutions segment; Connection Systems business unit.  Job Summary: The Aptiv Connection Systems team has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the North America Product Engineering Team. The successful candidate will be a part of the Consumer Connectivity product portfolio. The Mechanical Engineer will design, develop and validate the mechanical aspects of electronic products that integrate technologies such as USB-PD, USB hub, HDMI, Qi wireless charging, NFC, LED lighting, and GSM. The candidate will provide innovative solutions and work with cross-functional teams to meet customer-driven, automotive industry specifications. Your Role: Work directly with automotive OEMs and other Tier 1 suppliers to design products that meet customer functional and mechanical requirements Develop product drawings and oversee and/or create MCAD models Create change documentation for changes Use MCAD programs for developing new components Complete peer reviews of designs and design change activities Work with supply chain management to provide cost analysis of Bill of Material (BoM) and component cost tradeoffs Use analytical methods to perform simulations to verify operating boundaries and conditions for Worst Case Analysis Conduct detailed benchmarking, competitive and cost-tradeoff analysis for area of responsibility Perform simulations, worst case circuit tolerance analysis, FMEAs, fault tree analysis and similar design disciplines Perform bench level testing and prototyping Complete checklists as necessary for following the product development process flow Work with validation team to assist in developing proper equipment and processes for Design Validation (DV) and Product Validation (PV) of product Mentor other department Mechanical Engineers in proper practices, industry standards and best practices Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements Create and conduct technical presentations to explain and sell new product designs Support the cross-functional team including software engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, ECAD, MCAD, manufacturing, and SCM Your Required Background (i.e., Must Haves): Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline; or a combination of Associates degree in a related discipline and 20+ years relevant mechanical design experience 5+ years relevant mechanical design experience and can demonstrate abilities Familiarity with product development process including: component testing / PPAP, functional dimensioning, geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T), dimensional stack-up including statistical applications, design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) Previous experience with using MCAD software to develop multi-component mechanical designs Demonstrated knowledge of proper design methods to meet automotive thermal, environmental, structural, and appearance requirements Previous experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) process Previous experience designing injection molded plastic components Previous experience designing machined, cast, and stamped metal components Previous experience with tolerance stack-up analysis Ability and willingness to travel as required Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Visio, etc.) Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team. Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently Resourcefully innovative and adapts in a rapidly changing environment Your Preferred Background (i.e., Nice to Haves): Previous experience with SolidWorks and Siemens NX MCAD software Previous experience designing plastic and for 3D printing and other rapid prototyping technologies Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing LED lighting to customer requirements including light pipes and diffusers Previous experience designing, simulating, and testing active and passive heat dissipation technologies integrated within a product Previous experience in engineering components including inductive wireless chargers and magnets Previous experience with electrical contact systems and plating requirements Strong presence, poise and persuasiveness to establish a high level of credibility quickly Privacy Notice - Active Candidates: Aptiv is an equal employment opportunity employer.
