Agency Dept of Administration Division Administration Job Classification Title Engineer III (NS) Grade NC20 About Us The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees government operations such as building construction, purchasing, contracting, facilities maintenance, and state vehicle management, among other services. Key Responsibilities Review and approve bidding design and construction documents related to the structural and civil engineering aspects of capital improvement projects. Verify scope and estimated costs of projects against contract requirements and appropriate funds. Ensure efficient use of space, form, and materials in buildings and building sites. Evaluate the level of completion, accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness of plans and specifications. Indicate corrections and suggest improvements and revisions. Promote economy in initial costs and long‑term maintenance. Incorporate energy‑efficient systems and conservation measures into construction. Select, specify, and use all materials in compliance with NC building codes and applicable statutes. Maintain conformance of the contractual bid package with State Construction Office guidelines, policies, and procedures. Coordinate plans and documents among other engineering disciplines. Ensure projects cannot proceed to bid without State Construction Office approval per GS 143‑341(3). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (necessary special qualification). Working knowledge of principles and practices of structural and civil engineering. Benefits Sign‑on bonus of $5,000 for the successful applicant (subject to eligibility criteria).
