Director, Construction
Dispatch Energy
Dispatch Energy is a private investment firm focused on distributed energy assets across the United States. We develop, own, and operate a diversified portfolio of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), fuel cells, solar PV, and hybrid distributed generation projects — targeting commercial, industrial, and institutional customers where behind‑the‑meter (BTM) energy solutions can deliver immediate, measurable value. Our current portfolio includes more than 450 MW of assets in operation, development, and under construction. We also acquire seasoned project opportunities from local developers Dispatch Energy maintains a disciplined investment and development operation that creates value at every stage of the project lifecycle — from the first client conversation through decades of optimized asset operation. About the Role Dispatch Energy is seeking an experienced, safety‑driven Director, Construction to lead the delivery and construction of our distributed generation solar PV, battery energy storage (BESS), wind, and fuel cell projects. Reporting to the Senior Director of Construction and Operations, this role owns project execution from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through commercial operation (COD) — directing project managers, EPC partners, and subcontractors across a multi‑state portfolio while upholding Dispatch Energy's commitment to safety, quality, and on‑time, on‑budget delivery. Just as importantly, this role leads the newly established Project Delivery group — the Manager, Project Delivery and the Analyst, Pre‑Construction Estimator — so that projects arrive at NTP fully scoped, budgeted, and construction‑ready. This is the role that owns the whole arc: from a project's pre‑NTP readiness, through construction, to a clean handoff to Asset Management and O&M. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on construction leader with deep solar and storage experience who can manage concurrent projects, drive a zero‑incident safety culture, and bridge field, engineering, and commercial considerations to deliver high‑performing renewable energy assets. Key Responsibilities Delivery & Construction Leadership Lead the newly established Project Delivery group — the Manager, Project Delivery and the Analyst, Pre‑Construction Estimator — ensuring every project arrives at NTP fully scoped, budgeted, and construction‑ready. Own the subcontracted construction of all distributed generation projects — solar PV, BESS, wind, and fuel cell — from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through commercial operation (COD). Direct construction project managers, EPC partners, and subcontractors across multiple concurrent project sites in multiple states. Establish and enforce construction execution standards, means and methods, and field productivity targets. Drive on‑time, on‑budget delivery against project schedules and COD commitments. Serve as the senior construction point of contact for owners, EPC subcontractors, utilities, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). Partner with the Origination, Development, and M&A teams to sustain a healthy pipeline of buildable projects and a clean handoff into construction at NTP. Safety, Quality & Compliance Champion a zero‑incident safety culture and enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site‑specific EHS programs across all crews, subcontractors, and vendors. Establish and oversee QA / QC programs so work meets engineering specifications, the NEC and applicable codes, and utility interconnection requirements. Ensure construction activities comply with permits, environmental conditions, AHJ requirements, and interconnection agreements. Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions. Cost, Schedule & Contract Management Own construction budgets, cost‑to‑complete forecasts, and project profit and loss from NTP through closeout. Manage EPC and subcontractor contracts, scopes of work, buyouts, and change‑order negotiation and defense. Develop and maintain integrated construction schedules; identify and mitigate critical‑path and schedule risk. Review and approve subcontractor and vendor requisitions, invoices, and pay applications. Lead value‑engineering and constructability reviews to reduce installed cost without compromising quality or performance. Escalate material cost, schedule, and scope changes in line with the IC Policy and delegation of authority, and secure reapproval where required. Stakeholder Management Manage a broad set of stakeholders — internal (Capital Markets, Legal, Procurement, Operations, and Asset Management), owners, contractors, suppliers, and enablers such as utilities and AHJs. Identify the key outcomes each project must deliver and map them to what each stakeholder values. Identify, articulate, and manage stakeholder‑specific risks and opportunities. Build the team and the operating system that let the function scale with the pipeline. Build, mentor, and lead a high‑performing delivery and construction team; recruit, develop, and retain top field and project management talent. Set performance expectations, conduct reviews, and hold the team accountable to milestones and standards. Establish scalable delivery and construction processes, tools, and templates to support portfolio growth across multiple states. Carry every project across the finish line and hand off a clean, well‑documented operating asset. Oversee mechanical completion, commissioning, energization, and substantial completion across solar, BESS, wind, and fuel cell scopes. Coordinate utility witness testing, interconnection approvals, and permission‑to‑operate (PTO). Manage punch‑list resolution, as‑built documentation, warranty turnover, and handoff to Asset Management and O&M. Lead lessons‑learned and closeout reviews to drive continuous improvement across the portfolio. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered. 10+ years of construction management experience in renewable energy or electrical construction, including 5+ years in a leadership role delivering solar PV and/or BESS projects. Demonstrated success managing the full construction lifecycle (NTP to COD) of distributed generation and/or utility‑scale projects. Experience building scalable construction processes and high‑performing construction teams. Technical Knowledge Working knowledge of medium‑voltage electrical systems, utility interconnection, and AHJ permitting processes. Strong command of construction safety standards (OSHA 30, NFPA 70E) and QA / QC practices. Solar and BESS construction experience required; fuel cell and wind construction experience a plus. Project Management & Delivery Strong command of project management fundamentals — scope, schedule, cost, risk, stakeholder management, and the triple constraint — and a track record of applying them to deliver successful outcomes. Proven track record managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and change orders across a portfolio of concurrent projects. Leadership & Communication Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills; able to lead a multi‑disciplinary team and represent Dispatch Energy to owners, utilities, and authorities. Willingness to travel regularly to active project sites across multiple U.S. states. Tools & Systems Proficiency with project scheduling and management tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, and Quickbase / Smartsheet). Proficiency with AI tools, agents, and large language models (LLMs). Why Dispatch Energy Lead and build a new function: you will own how Dispatch Energy delivers and builds every project, from pre‑NTP readiness through commercial operation, and stand up the team and standards the entire platform runs on. Join a team building something real: a growing platform of BTM BESS, fuel cell, solar, and wind assets that directly reduce cost and improve resiliency for industrial customers. Work closely with a sharp, mission‑driven team across Origination, Development, M&A, Construction, and Capital Markets. Competitive compensation, including base salary and performance‑based incentives. Significant upside as the company scales its origination and development pipeline nationwide. #J-18808-Ljbffr
