Interior Designer

Position Summary BB&E is an employee-owned, full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors. BB&E is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Interior Designer to provide design and technical support to NAVFAC Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida. This role supports mission-critical military infrastructure projects and involves close collaboration with engineers, architects, and construction professionals. Job Duties & Responsibilities Provide independent, timely, and professional specialized interior design support, services, and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including minor works projects, specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization, and facilities development Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborate with engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements Provide a broad range of interior design services to all activities and tenants; this includes many customer activities with varied missions, dispersed over a sizable geographical region with numerous facility types, ranging from administrative and housing facilities to very complex industrial and operational facilities and equipment Create innovative interior designs of new facilities as well as the maintenance and repair of existing facilities; such services are complicated and intensified by the following factors: aging and obsolete facilities; customer activity mission changes; and variable funding sources among the customer activities Requirements U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC are required Certification: National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) certification is required Knowledge Knowledge, as demonstrated by recent relevant experience, to prepare interior designs that meet functional and aesthetic requirements, and produce final working drawings for facilities, such as multi\u002dstory office buildings, operational facilities, personnel support facilities, industrial\u002dtype shops, housing, and other facilities normally found on military installations is required Knowledge of interior design concepts, principles, and practices applicable to the full range of duties concerned with the design, layout, and construction of facilities is required Ability to supplement standard practices and adapt techniques to solve a wide variety of technical issues is required Ability to apply innovative theories and state\u002dofthe\u002dart methods to technical principles, practices, and problems not resolvable through conventional methods is required Knowledge of related engineering disciplines (i.e., architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and fire protection) to assure that areas of overlapping responsibilities receive proper design consideration and that total project objectives are met. Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and the ability to consolidate the findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts; ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and motivate and lead individuals of a variety of backgrounds Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences Software: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and database\u002dtype software as well as SpecsIntact word processing software, and cost estimating software; proficiency in the use of computer\u002daided design and drafting software and hardware used in the preparation and presentation of concept designs and the preparation of final working drawings Self\u002dStarter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously Experience & Education Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional interior design code\u002dcompliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree for interior design from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university supplemented by significant work experience and/or research in commercial interior design, is required Physical Requirements Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone LIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMER The above job description is meant to describe the general nature and level of work being performed; it is not intended as an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and required skills for the position.
