General Summary

The Medical Assistant operates within their skill set to provide patient care as delegated by clinical staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to patient safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling.
• Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document patient history and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
• Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
• Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed.
• Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation timely.
• Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
• Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is necessary.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credentials from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) are preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus, frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 35 lbs, and various physical movements including turning, stooping, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
