Sr Research Administrator

The Sr Research Administrator (SRA) is responsible for post-award grant management for the Department of Epidemiology. This role supports investigators during grant implementation and close-out and is the primary lead for budget management, compliance, spend monitoring, and collaboration with Grants and Sponsored Programs and Grants Finance teams.

The SRA administers a large, high dollar and varied portfolio of sponsored awards that may include multiple faculty and locations. The roles necessitates management of competing priorities while providing excellence in customer service to internal and external customers; ensuring activity records are accurate and appropriately organized and recorded in a timely manner; independently monitoring sponsored agreements, contracts and subawards; serving as a training resource for faculty and staff at all levels; development of documentation of protocols, templates, and additional resources; understanding and compliance with federal and other sponsor guidelines and regulatory documents.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage post-award administration of grants and sponsored programs (e.g., preparation and review of budgets, preparation and monitoring of subawards, close-out of awards and coordinating of annual reporting from all parties).
• Ensure compliance with federal, sponsor or institutional guidelines related to grants.
• Proactively work with cross-functional teams (e.g., research team, sponsor institutions, grants finance, grants and sponsored programs) to effectively manage the department's portfolio.
• Support development and maintenance of standard operating procedures to ensure high-quality services of own team/ department.
• Meet routinely with funded faculty to review grant progress and budget spenddown.
• Develop, prepare, revise, and finalize project budgets and provide budget justifications.
• Manage the subaward process with external partners and facilitate documentation for fiscal and audit compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

• Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum Experience:

• Minimum Requirement: 4+ years of experience in administration processes as applicable to grants and sponsored programs.
• Experience working with relevant regulations.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams.
• Proven performance in earlier role.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:

• Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Financial Certified Research Administrator (FCRA) credentials preferred

Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Experience with grant management module in Workday preferred.
• Experience using, and managing grant contract lifecycle management software and contract platforms
• Proven track record of budget management for projects of varied complexity and scope
• Effectively monitors compliance with financial regulatory requirements and reports issues.
• Utilizes reports and manages documentation to efficiently monitor financial compliance requirements within own function/ department.
• Proactively communicates with faculty on challenges and concerns.
• Presents information in a clear, well thought out way and tailored to the audience.
• Works with partners to find the best solutions that align with grant aims and departmental priorities. Works effectively to find solutions that are compliant and responsive to changing needs.
• Strong understanding of financial systems, tools and processes.
• Skilled in grant budget close-out and internal & external financial reporting.
• Create reports for internal & external audiences; evaluates reports and data to identify business issues.
• Ability to look at data more critically and draw meaningful conclusions. Conducts root-cause analysis as needed.
• Good understanding of contract management, agreements and negotiation.
• Supports faculty and staff in resolving issues as they relate to contracts and grant supply needs.
• Strong knowledge of policies, practices and concepts related to research administration.
• Maintains complete and accurate collection of research management administration data.
• Works independently to assess complex contract and grant proposal requirements and manage complex grant and contract proposals and award.
• Promotes the use of best practices in administration.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $70,720 - $126,880 per year for the role of Sr Research Administrator.
