JOB OVERVIEW Facilities Buildings & Grounds (F.B.G.) is currently seeking a Plumber to help support the University’s mission and vision in Facilities Services. The Plumber will assist the Evening Supervisor, Facilities Operations with the day-to‑day plumbing operations. Work schedule is Monday–Friday 2:30 PM–11:30 PM, to include a holiday and weekend rotating schedule. The candidate will be well trained in all plumbing applications, highly organized, and a professional who takes pride in their work and can perform various customer service duties as required throughout the day. The Plumber is responsible for the proper operation of all systems and equipment and may lead plumbing maintenance programs including required repairs, renovations and preventative maintenance so that the university mission is upheld. Responsibilities Plan, implement and administer a preventative maintenance program(s) to provide maximum life to facilities in accordance with industry standards. Apply knowledge of plumbing systems in commercial, residential and academic buildings. Coordinate and facilitate walkthrough inspections and due diligence investigations. Provide regular verbal/written reports to the Evening Supervisor, Facilities Operations. Communicate plumbing best practices to employees. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of plumbing trade tools, occupational hazards, safety precautions, local codes and regulations. Understand and apply F.B.G. policies and procedures; work effectively in a multi‑ethnic/multi‑cultural environment. Schedule plumbing work orders with GW stakeholders and perform inspections for quality control on contractor assignments. Advise administrators on alternatives to proposed plumbing projects and equipment purchases. Provide instructions and assistance to solve work‑related problems and perform specific plumbing tasks. Perform other work‑related duties as requested. Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Preferred Qualifications Ability to understand and review architectural and mechanical drawings, including as‑built drawings. DC Journeyman Plumbing License preferred, reciprocity accepted. Graduation from a trades school or completion of a certified plumbing licensed program with emphasis in plumbing/gas fitting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in the plumbing trade and working knowledge of building and plumbing codes. Ability to make material take‑offs and time allotments to complete plumbing‑related projects. Knowledge of mathematics, formulas and some design ability of building plumbing systems. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Competent communication and correspondence skills. Understanding of federal and District of Columbia building codes. Ability to interact with a diverse population, including students, faculty, staff, external contractors and vendors. Ability to utilize and manage work order ticket systems such as Assetworks or other CMMS. Knowledge of safe work practices based on industry standards, injury and illness prevention practices.
