Field Diesel Diagnostics & Mobile Repair Specialist

Job Description

Job Description

Own Your Route. Elevate Your Craft.

Picture this: The sun’s just up over Central Texas. You fire up your fully equipped service truck, review your digital work orders, and roll to your first stop—a contractor counting on you to keep a medium-duty diesel truck earning. By noon, you’ve diagnosed an electrical issue using advanced tooling, mapped a plan with the customer, and executed the repair safely. The afternoon brings a hydraulic service call and a quick preventive inspection that prevents a future breakdown. Another day moving fleets forward.

This is life at Transwest Mobile—an experienced, innovative mobile team serving Arizona, California, Nevada, Texas, and Utah. We’re adding a skilled technician to support our Austin, TX service area. Although the posting lists Temple, TX, we welcome applicants from Temple, Round Rock, Georgetown, Killeen, and nearby communities. You’ll have a take-home company service vehicle, so you don’t need to live in Austin proper.

What You’ll Tackle

• Perform field maintenance and repair on light- and medium-duty diesel trucks—engines, hydraulics, electrical, and more.
• Diagnose complex faults using advanced diagnostic tools, service information, and your own expertise.
• Handle scheduled services and urgent breakdowns independently while meeting safety and performance standards.
• Operate specialized equipment to support on-site service tasks.
• Communicate clearly with customers—explain findings, set expectations, and document recommendations.
• Keep thorough records of inspections, repairs, parts, and time.
• Coach entry-level techs and collaborate to improve processes and outcomes.
• Stay current with industry advancements and apply them in the field.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• 5+ years hands-on experience with medium/light duty diesel platforms (engine, hydraulic, or electrical systems).
• Fluency with diagnostic software, scan tools, and OEM/service manuals.
• Calm, methodical troubleshooting under time pressure.
• Your own professional toolset appropriate for mobile work.
• Strong organization—able to prioritize and juggle multiple jobs.
• Valid driver’s license and comfort operating a company service vehicle.
• Ability to pass background checks.
• Capability to lift 50+ lbs and work indoors/outdoors.

Preferred

• Mobile/field service experience supporting commercial fleets.
• ASE certifications or OEM training (e.g., Cummins, Detroit, Volvo).
• Customer-facing communication excellence; project or site leadership a plus.

Why Transwest Mobile

• Impactful Work: Keep mission-critical equipment working when it matters most.
• Growth: Partner with industry leaders like Cummins, Eaton, and Ford; mentor others and expand your mastery.
• Team Culture: Innovators who back each other up and value your expertise.
• Top Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Referral bonus program
  • Overtime opportunities based on performance
  • On-the-job training
  • Work boot allowance, uniforms, and cleaning provided
  • Company take-home service vehicle for mobile roles
