Life Skills Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Life Skills Worker (Part time) FLSA: Non-Exempt DIVISION: Supportive Housing Services REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator LOCATION: Yonkers, NY SALARY: $17.00 to $19.00 hourly SUMMARY: A key component of this job is to assist clients in their physical, social, emotional and daily life skills development. Plans, develops, implements and evaluates recreational, social and/or educational activities for clients served in the program. In addition, the LifeSkills worker will assist clients with employment, resume building, job searches and is the liaison with our Employment Services Department. Proof of covid-19 vaccine required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Aids clients in their own homes/program and in the community to allow them to function more safely and independently. Facilitates physical, recreational, social and educational activities. Provides clients with a positive role model. Assists clients with personal hygiene and grooming i.e. bathing, oral hygiene, and toileting. Monitors clients' needs, progress and well-being and assists case management team in evaluating the effectiveness of planned counseling and support Assists case management team in identifying potential problems. Provides input to counselors and other professionals with regard to the development of client program plans Teach daily living skills such as budgeting, shopping, meal preparation, etc. Work with other professionals involved with the client, acting as a learning support assistant Document all contacts and outcomes in the individual case file Advocates on behalf of clients to secure social services entitlements Assist clients with applications for entitlements Maintains on-going communication with Coordinator/Case Managers on all aspects of the work Accompanies case manager when conducting apartment inspections or work orders Assist client with resumes, job searches and link the client to our Employment Services Department Other duties as required or assigned by supervisor EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTs: Successful applicant must have strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to provide good customer service, both in person and by telephone; must possess good organizational skills and have a high attention to detail. The successful applicant must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize work assignments, and maintain confidentiality. Bi-lingual Spanish a plus. A minimum of an Associates degree or at least 2 years of experience working with substance abuse, mental health, homeless and child welfare.
