Transportation Supervisor

Transportation Supervisor Winston‑Salem State University seeks a Transportation Supervisor to oversee daily operations, logistics, and maintenance of campus shuttle services while managing a team of 10–15 drivers. Key Responsibilities Direct daily operations of the shuttle fleet, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transportation services. Operate the Ram Express Shuttle on prescribed routes and manage scheduling, routing, and dispatching. Maintain accurate mileage, passenger, and daily count records. Develop and update work procedures, coordinate with dispatch, HR, and Facilities for maintenance and safety improvements. Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and complete vehicle checklists. Identify and resolve maintenance issues, schedule repairs, and keep vehicles in operational condition. Administer drug and alcohol testing programs for safety‑sensitive personnel. Investigate accidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and enforce corrective actions. Train and mentor drivers and staff, provide performance feedback, and conduct safety briefings. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, concerns, and complaints. Utilize telematics and passenger‑reporting tools to monitor real‑time service performance. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university transportation regulations. Competencies & Skills Strong communication and problem‑solving abilities. Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and transportation technology. Leadership and staff‑management skills. Facility maintenance coordination and safety culture advocacy. Data‑driven decision making for continuous improvement. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent plus five years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5–6 years of logistics or driving experience preferred. Strong communication, problem‑solving, and organizational skills. Experience with DOT/FMCSA regulations and logistics technology. Demonstrated leadership and training experience. Required License / Certification A valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with a Passenger (P) endorsement, obtained or in the process of obtaining within 360 days of hire.
