Permit Technician

The City of Camas Community Development Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Permit Technician. The individual selected will perform a variety of administrative support functions and report to the Building Official.

The hours for this in-person position are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Upon completion of probationary period, a hybrid work schedule may be optional. The position is represented by the Camas Public Employees' Association and is eligible for a full benefits package.

Job Duties

What You'll Do

You will play a key role in supporting department operations, ensuring efficient administrative processes, and providing exceptional service to both internal and external customers. Responsibilities may include:

• Process land-use and building permit applications accurately and efficiently.
• Provide excellent customer service to residents, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Explain City policies, procedures, and permitting requirements.
• Answer phones and respond to public inquiries professionally.
• Maintain and update permit tracking systems and County GIS records.
• Prepare residential and commercial certificates of occupancy.
• Support daily administrative operations with strong attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates for this position shall have:

• Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in office procedures, or a related field.
• Four (4) years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience.
• Experience with Tyler Technologies' configuration systems, or similar permit tracking systems, is desirable.
