Medical Assistant (PRN) Job DescriptionPosition Title:Medical Assistant (PRN)Position SummaryThe PRN Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare staff on an as-needed basis. This position assists with patient care, ensures efficient clinic operations, and supports the organization's mission of delivering exceptional patient-centered care. The PRN Medical Assistant must be flexible and available to work varying schedules based on operational needs.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical ResponsibilitiesRoom patients and obtain vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.Document patient histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and minor procedures.Perform specimen collection, point-of-care testing, injections, and other clinical duties within scope of practice.Process laboratory orders and ensure proper specimen handling and documentation.Provide patient education regarding medications, procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms and clinical equipment.Maintain infection prevention and safety standards consistent with organizational policies.Administrative ResponsibilitiesSchedule patient appointments and coordinate referrals as needed.Verify patient information and assist with registration processes.Manage telephone calls, patient messages, and prescription refill requests according to established protocols.Assist with prior authorizations, medical records requests, and other administrative tasks.Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EHR.QualificationsRequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent.Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare operations.Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.PreferredCurrent Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent credential.Minimum of one (1) year of outpatient clinic experience.Urology, surgical specialty, or ambulatory care experience preferred.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods.Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.Ability to perform repetitive motions and maintain visual acuity for documentation and patient care activities.Work EnvironmentFast-paced outpatient medical practice.Frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids requiring adherence to standard precautions.SchedulePRN (as needed) position with no guaranteed hours.Flexible availability to cover staff absences, increased patient volumes, and operational needs.May include weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends based on clinic requirements.Key CompetenciesPatient-centered serviceTeam collaborationAttention to detailAdaptability and flexibilityProfessionalism and confidentialityStrong organizational skillsReports To: Clinical Manager/Practice ManagerFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEmployment Status: PRN (As Needed) #J-18808-Ljbffr Paycom
