MRI Technologist

Job Summary The MRI Technologist performs MRI exams on patients of all ages. Applies principles, theories, and techniques of magnetic resonance scanning to provide and identify acceptable diagnostic quality images. Adheres to ThedaCare safety and quality standards, and uses proper ergonomic techniques. Key Accountabilities Provides professional, empathetic, and compassionate care to team members, patients, families, and significant others. Greets patients and their families, assists patients with dressing/undressing, transports or ambulates patients, and assists patients with comfort needs. Demonstrates working knowledge of equipment and safety practices in the areas of responsibility. Performs radiology procedures according to manufacturer, medical/department standards and protocols, sets appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs intravenous access and administration of contrast in accordance with established protocols; is knowledgeable regarding types and uses of contrast and responses to reactions. Completes department tasks such as stocking supplies, checking outdated supplies, performing safety audits or tracking, and cleaning rooms and equipment. Provides practical instruction for patients, families, and other health care professionals. Applies critical thinking skills and ensures order accuracy when triaging and prioritizing patients. Practices safety at all times, including adhering to ALARA principles, safe patient handling, infection prevention practices, and hand hygiene. Completes documentation on time and accurately in accordance with department policy/procedure, including proper image management and electronic medical record. Promotes patient privacy, comfort, and education regarding the exam. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited radiography program. Advanced certification in MRI within 18 months of hire. American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certification. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS). Physical Demands Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance. Exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties. Uses computers throughout work day. Work Environment Works in a climate‑controlled office environment. Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space. Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Occasional high noise level. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents. Occasional contact with aggressive and/or combative patients.
