Martin is a third-generation, family-owned commercial construction company with more than 65 years of experience delivering complex ground-up commercial projects across the United States. Our portfolio includes self-storage, light industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, education, warehouse, data center, and other commercial developments, with projects ranging from approximately $5 million to $30+ million. As Martin Commercial continues to expand its geographic footprint and project portfolio, we are looking for an experienced Controller to strengthen our financial operations and serve as a strategic financial partner to ownership, executive leadership, and our construction operations team. About the Role The ideal candidate brings 3–7 years of public accounting experience , with a strong focus on construction accounting, and understands the financial complexities of commercial construction. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing Martin Commercial’s accounting and financial operations while serving as a strategic financial partner to ownership, executive leadership, and the construction operations team. The Controller will manage the Assistant Controller and provide leadership, direction, and development to the accounting team. This individual will also play a critical role in building and shaping the future accounting organization as Martin Commercial continues to grow, including identifying future team needs, strengthening processes and controls, and developing a high-performing finance and accounting function. The Controller will oversee financial reporting, cash flow, budgeting, job costing, month-end close, financial controls, and project-level financial performance. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and executive leadership to provide meaningful financial insight, identify risks and opportunities, and support informed business decisions. Key Responsibilities Lead accounting operations, month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls. Oversee WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and project profitability. Monitor project costs, budgets, cash flow, commitments, and cost-to-complete. Partner with Project Managers and Operations to identify financial risks and improve project performance. Oversee AP, AR, billing, collections, and cash management. Manage and develop the Assistant Controller. Coordinate audits, tax matters, banking, bonding, and external accounting relationships. Provide ownership and executive leadership with accurate financial analysis and recommendations. Qualifications 7+ years of public accounting experience with construction accounting focus required. Commercial construction or general contracting experience required. Strong knowledge of WIP, job costing, percentage-of-completion, and financial reporting. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills. CPA strongly preferred.
