Under the general supervision of the Rehab Therapy supervisor at the Rehab Center at Mercy Health Center, and according to departmental policies and procedures regarding referral, standards of treatment, performs objective assessments, as well as comprehensive individualized treatment programs for adult and geriatric patients. Responsible for direct supervision to patients, indirect supervision of rehabilitation technicians. General supervision of PT assistants in accordance with Oklahama Practice Act. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Mercy Orthopedic Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Physical Therapist to join our Rehabilitation team. This position provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation services for adult and geriatric patients recovering from orthopedic, neurological, and other functional impairments.

As a Physical Therapist, you will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized treatment plans that maximize each patient's mobility, independence, and quality of life. This role also includes supervision of Rehabilitation Technicians and Physical Therapist Assistants in accordance with the Missouri Physical Therapy Practice Act.

Responsibilities

Patient Evaluation & Plan of Care

• Perform comprehensive physical therapy evaluations following physician referral and department standards.
• Utilize appropriate assessment tools and objective measures to identify functional deficits and rehabilitation needs.
• Collaborate with patients and caregivers to establish individualized treatment goals and expected outcomes.
• Develop age-appropriate treatment plans for adult and geriatric populations.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, goals, and expected progress.
• Coordinate care with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation of evaluations, plans of care, and functional assessments.

Treatment & Rehabilitation

• Provide skilled physical therapy interventions, including therapeutic exercise, mobility training, functional activities, balance training, and other evidence-based treatment techniques.
• Reassess patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
• Utilize proper safety practices and infection prevention protocols during all patient interactions.
• Maintain established productivity and documentation standards.
• Communicate patient progress and recommendations with physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
• Develop and provide individualized home exercise programs prior to discharge.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding home programs, safety precautions, and ongoing rehabilitation needs.
• Ensure caregivers demonstrate understanding and competence with prescribed home programs when appropriate.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient records in accordance with departmental, regulatory, and organizational standards.
• Document daily treatments, patient progress, goal achievement, and treatment outcomes.
• Complete interim and discharge summaries as required.
• Communicate changes in patient status or treatment plans to the physician and care team.
• Document patient education activities and caregiver training.
• Ensure all charges and related documentation are completed accurately and submitted within required timelines.

Professional Development & Leadership

• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and hospital-wide programs.
• Maintain compliance with annual competencies, licensure requirements, and continuing education standards.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• Assist with orientation and training of new employees as assigned.
• Provide mentorship and clinical instruction to Physical Therapy and Physical Therapist Assistant students.
• Share knowledge gained through continuing education and professional development opportunities with the rehabilitation team.

Qualifications

Education

Required:

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.

Licensure

Required:

• Current Missouri Physical Therapist license or eligibility for Missouri licensure.

Certifications

Required:

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• All required certifications must be maintained and current prior to independently caring for patients.

Experience

Preferred:

• Six months to one year of Physical Therapy experience in a rehabilitation, hospital, or orthopedic setting.
• Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations.
