POSITION SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Water Exercise Instructor is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance, and leadership. The Instructor creates and leads Water Exercise classes in a safe, effective, and timely manner, appropriate to the level of the participants in class, to enhance physical, mental, and spiritual health. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCreate a positive member experience by welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout Provide a safe workout routine by demonstrating proper form and technique, appropriate modifications, and cueing, as instructed by accredited organization Listen to and collect feedback from participants. Implement changes as necessary.Maintain a clean and safe workout area and enforce pool/class rules.Design a music playlist for all classes that follows YMCA guidelines.Be punctual, reliable and effectively utilize scheduled class timeProperly set up and breakdown class equipment in allotted timeframe Build community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their wellbeing goalsFollow guidelines for leading YMCA Group Exercise classes.Respond to critical situations and act swiftly in an emergency. Complete incident reports in an accurate and timely manner.Serve as a role model for healthy living and positive community engagement.Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members Participate in staff meetings, in-services or training to maintain certification.Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONSAEA, ASFA, Aqua Zumba certification required (AEA preferred)1+ year's experience leading a Water Exercise classes preferred All job required trainings within 30 days from date of hire Strong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications requiredAbility to teach from inside and/or outside of the waterCPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross American Heart Association American Safety & Health Institute
