Fluids/Mechanical Test Engineer II - Lunar Permanence

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This is a hands‑on position where you will apply broad multi‑disciplinary engineering (fluids, thermal, mechanical, and electrical/electronic) knowledge, skills, and methods to positively impact safe human spaceflight. We are looking for someone with technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Special Mentions Travel expected up to 25% of the time Relocation provided Interviews will include a technical assessment Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To Apply direct experience to fluids and/or thermal component and subsystem test planning and execution, which could include development, qualification, acceptance, performance, and environmental testing. Identify test events, needs and equipment required for test. Apply experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems. Create and review Test Plans, Test Procedures, safety assessments, schematics, and other engineering artifacts. Design, procure, and install test support equipment; manage vendors and subcontractors during installation. Identify, communicate, and mitigate cost, schedule, and technical risks. Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing. Participate in test readiness reviews, pre‑ and post‑test briefings, and post‑test reviews. Manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns. Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing. Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations. Reduce, analyze, and archive test data. Integrate between fluids and thermal subsystems and overall system level vehicle to ensure component level testing is in compliance with overall vehicle test plans. Minimum Qualifications BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related technical discipline. 2+ years of relevant testing experience including pumps, valves, thermal control elements, propulsion elements, sensors, pneumatic/hydraulic fluids, and/or piping. Proven track record of working with test, flight, and safety‑critical hardware, tools, and shop equipment. Experience with space vehicle component or subsystem testing including structural, vibe, pressure, thermal. Experience reading and creating P&ID schematics/layout designs. Understand the Test Like You Fly assessment and exception process. Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills. Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture. Experience with 3D CAD tools, LabView, MATLAB, and data management Instrumentation and controls, and data acquisition systems experience. Strong safety demeanor and experience, including hands‑on experience planning and conducting hazardous or critical operations. Demonstrate high standards in test operations and work cooperatively with a team of Integration Engineers, Responsible Engineers, and BLUE customers to ensure requirements are met. Preferred Qualifications Experience with aerospace flight hardware Established technical expertise in test stand design, operations, and maintenance Experience testing COPV’s and pressure vessels Experience with vacuum chambers or vacuum applications Experience utilizing space and industry standards such as MIL-STD-810, SMC-S-016, and MIL-STD-1540 Knowledge of a variety of fluids; experience with cryogenics and monopropellants is a plus Experience executing component testing at rateKnowledge of systems engineering practices, fabrication and integration processes, and quality control Understanding/experience with hazardous operations and design for system safety Strong Project Management skills to include budgeting and schedule development Compensation Range For WA applicants is $99,201.00 - $138,880.35 Other Site Ranges May Differ Culture Statement Don’t meet all desired requirements? Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre‑employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical Benefits Benefits include: Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long‑term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program. Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company‑paid holidays.
