Ultrasound Specialist - Radiology

Educational and career development options, including tuition and certification reimbursement, scholarship opportunities Staff Safety (a wearable badge that allows nurses to quickly and discreetly call for help when safety is a concern) Differentials for night/weekend shifts, higher education, certifications and various lead roles (for eligible positions) Malpractice liability insurance Loan forgiveness through the New Mexico Higher Education Department EPIC electronic charting system Responsibilities Successful transmission of images to PACS Schedule ultrasound cases to coordinate with other patient exams Educate patient before scanning procedure, explaining the procedure and answering patient questions Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and ultrasound department policy, such as blood pressures (pre and post exam) and post-invasive procedure patient follow-up Maintain records of exam data and other pertinent information on patients Use Radiology Information System, hospital information systems as required Assist physician in procedures such as needle biopsies, amniocentesis, renal biopsies, etc. Scan patient, mark patient’s body, determine angle for puncture, and assist as necessary Maintain sterile technique Adhere to established hospital radiology and ultrasound policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards Select proper technical factors on an individual patient basis Position and transfer patients comfortably Assist in maintaining upkeep of department and equipment, including ordering and stocking supplies when necessary Attend section staff meetings, in-services, workshops, and/or seminars for continuing education to enhance professional growth and development Takes call for ultrasound procedures Work with, oversee, and evaluate student ultrasound technologists Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (NM Diagnostic Medical Sonography) ARDMS certification within one year of hire Must hold and maintain current New Mexico State Licensure (DMS-NM) under the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program; provisional or temporary license may be considered Current BLS required Two years of radiology ultrasound; specific college coursework preferred Associate degree preferred Benefits Employee wellness program includes free on-site and community-based gyms, nutrition coaching and classes, mindfulness and meditation resources, wellness challenges.
