About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days 7a-7p Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Current RN license in Maine or compact Certifications: BLS certification required, ACLS certification preferred Must-Have: Current, unexpired immunizations are required. Varicella: 2 doses or titer. HepB: 3 doses or titer or declination. MMR: 2 doses or titer. Tdap: current. PPD: 2-step or titer within the past 12 months. Flu shot required during flu season. Description: The role involves performing initial age-appropriate nursing assessments. Ongoing age-appropriate reassessments must be completed throughout the shift. Discharge assessments to identify patient discharge needs are a key responsibility. Identifying priorities for the delivery of nursing care is essential. A plan of care based on patient needs and physician orders must be developed and implemented. Executing appropriate nursing actions to reach patient goals is necessary. Effective communication of patient care activities to health care team members is expected. Regular updates to team members regarding current status and any changes in the plan are required. Documentation of patient care activities in accordance with established standards and policies is mandatory. Specialty/supplemental nursing notes should be initiated as appropriate. Assisting with patient charges is part of the responsibilities. Patient care must be delivered in accordance with hospital policies and within the scope of the state Nursing Practice Act. Maintaining a physical environment that ensures patient and staff safety and wellness is crucial. Ensuring that supplies and equipment are readily available and in safe working order is required. Situations involving questionable safety or legality must be reported promptly to the nursing manager. The nurse must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to implement procedures in the event of a disaster. Knowledge of drug administration and effects is essential. Utilizing appropriate drug reference sources for drug information is necessary. Medications must be administered correctly, following the five rights through medication verification. Evaluating patient response to medications is crucial. Assessment of the need for patient and family education, and providing teaching as indicated, is required. The discharge plan must be completed, ensuring patient and family understanding. Follow-up calls to patients should be performed. Assessment of nursing care throughout the shift is necessary. Participation in meetings and bedside rounding with the healthcare team is expected. Quality improvement initiatives should be actively supported and implemented. Active participation in emergency/disaster preparedness planning and drills is required. During actual emergencies, participation in the organizational response is expected within professional and personal abilities.
