Site Engineer II Company: Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. Division: Particle Therapy Division (PTD) Location: Houston, TX Status: Temp to hire, Full-Time Shifts: 8-hour shifts (24-hour coverage), weekday & weekend (Shift Work) Summary Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced Site Engineer II to provide service and maintenance for the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) System, which is used for treating cancer at The University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and the associated support systems. The Site Engineer II will be responsible for technical support and direction for preventative/corrective maintenance, and will analyze system operation data by collaborating with the engine of the PBT System manufacturer. The engineer will work as part of the team to ensure compliance of technical and mechanical programs such as worker safety, spare parts program, tool management, equipment tagging, facility procedure compliance, administrative procedure compliance, office equipment and systems by following all necessary procedures, protocols and guidelines. Responsibilities Lead the technicians on site to improve their technical skills and knowledge. Monitor and positively affect operational performance of the PBT system and patient experience. Interface with customers to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Respond and answer customers’ technical questions within a reasonable amount of time. Communicate closely with the engineers of the PBT system manufacturer to ensure early recovery in the event of a PBT system failure. Collaborate with engineers at other sites to improve PTD's technical capabilities. Support the site service manager and the service technicians technically to write the maintenance documents for the PBT system. Receive the emergency call and supervise the maintenance service technicians technically. Analyze the system failure and propose the countermeasures. Create the recovery procedure and the training material for maintenance service technicians. Train maintenance service technicians to improve their knowledge. Work with team members to minimize part costs and maximize effectiveness. Work in compliance with all regulatory standards including but not limited to HIPAA, EH&S, FDA, OSHA Radiation Safety, applicable laws and internal policies. Safely work in areas with high voltage / elevated areas and utilize proper LOTO (lock-out, Tag-out) safety practices. Pack and unpack cardboard boxes and/or wooden crates, inspect and test incoming/outgoing materials and participate in shipment preparations. Transport packages, wooden crates, gas cylinders to and from the loading dock and warehouse. Complete and submit all timecards and service reports in a timely fashion with all relevant details. Document inventory control of the necessary supplies and parts. Create and maintain 6S practices (Safety, Sort, Store, Shine, Standardize, Sustain). Be self‑motivated and have a strong sense of responsibility. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of experience working or education as a design and/o engineering and/or maintenance for mechanical/electrical devices or medical devices. At least 1 year of experience as a technical trainer to subordinates is preferred. Japanese communication skill is preferred. Technically skilled with proven ability to troubleshoot problems, solve abstract issues, and interpret policies and procedures. Ability to: Identify hazard risks and work safely. Read and correctly interpret various engineering documents (schematics, wiring, piping diagrams, etc.). Read and interpret Japanese technical documents using tools (e.g., Google Translator). Use standard electrical test and measurement instruments (oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.). Safely work in mechanical, electrical, high‑voltage and radiation environments. Safely lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly. Work on elevated areas with safety harnesses. Work as part of a cross‑functional team. Maintain focus and work with precision over extended periods. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word). Develop and improve procedures. Flexibility to cover rotating shifts and availability to work overtime as needed. Continue to be interested in new knowledge and have a consciousness to learn and grow on our own. Must demonstrate ability to work well with various personnel demonstrating a good attitude and ability to work successfully as a member of the team.
