Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) - Interventional Radiology The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to eliminating cancer through exceptional patient care, innovative research, prevention initiatives, and education. The Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) will join the Interventional Radiology department within UT MD Anderson, supporting both inpatient and outpatient care at the Texas Medical Center. The Interventional Radiology Advanced Practice Provider delivers diagnostic and therapeutic patient care under physician supervision throughout the procedural continuum. The Neuro Interventional Radiology Advanced Practice Provider plays a critical role in patient assessment, procedure preparation, clinical management, education, follow-up care, and procedural support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical foundation in patient assessment, medical management, procedural care, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Experience supporting interventional radiology, procedural services, acute care, or specialty care environments is beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate sound clinical judgment, communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Responsibilities Clinical Assessment, Documentation & Patient Management • Complete histories and physicals and pre-procedure assessments specific to interventional radiology procedures
• Perform sedation assessments including ASA scoring, airway classification, ECOG scoring, medication management, and medical referrals in accordance with departmental and institutional policies
• Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and imaging
• Prescribe medications and determine pre-, intra-, and post-procedure medical management within scope of practice
• Formulate and execute management plans for laboratory, transfusion, contrast, anticoagulation, antiplatelet, and post-procedure pain management issues
• Assess and manage peri-procedural hypertension, hypotension, fluid and electrolyte imbalances, and diabetes-related concerns
• Collaborate with physicians and primary teams on comprehensive peri-procedural management plans
• Triage cases appropriately and provide clear written and verbal communication
• Maintain compliance with evaluation and management billing regulations and documentation requirements Patient Education, Follow-Up & Longitudinal Care • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, risks, benefits, alternatives, expected outcomes, preparation, recovery, and follow-up care
• Participate in the informed consent process according to institutional policy
• Manage post-procedure care for inpatients and outpatients, assessing for complications and sedation-related events
• Evaluate outpatient discharge readiness and extended recovery patients as required
• Perform inpatient rounds including pre-procedure evaluations, catheter assessments, complication management, and patient education
• Coordinate subsequent procedures, repeat imaging, laboratory studies, and follow-up schedules
• Conduct video, telephone, and in-person evaluations to identify complications and document adverse events
• Support development of patient education materials
• Promote patient satisfaction through effective interpersonal and communication skills Procedure Knowledge & Participation • Demonstrate knowledge of interventional radiology workflow in inpatient and outpatient settings
• Understand procedure indications, procedural techniques, risks, required work-up, and follow-up expectations
• Participate in catheter suturing, dressing placement, chest tube removal, and catheter flushing and triage activities as appropriate
• Assist faculty during interventional radiology procedures as assigned
• Perform minor procedures under physician supervision when authorized
• Utilize catheters, guidewires, syringes, and needles to support biopsies, drainage procedures, angiograms, vascular interventions, and other appropriate procedures
• Apply sterile technique during patient preparation and procedural activities
• Wear radiology lead protection while working in procedure rooms
