Infrastructure DBA (PostgreSQL, AWS, Distributed Systems)

Optomi, in partnership with our client, a leading energy organization responsible for providing safe and crucial services to millions of customers, is seeking an experienced Infrastructure DBA to support cloud-based database infrastructure and distributed data technologies within a highly technical environment. The ideal candidate will bring strong PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning experience, AWS cloud knowledge, and a solid understanding of distributed systems and backend infrastructure. Experience of the right candidate:

\n
• Strong professional experience as a Database Administrator, Infrastructure DBA, Cloud DBA, or similar infrastructure-focused database role.
\n
• Strong hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL environments.
\n
• Experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning, optimization, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
\n
• Experience supporting database infrastructure in AWS.
\n
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and multi-node database environments.
\n
• Experience with database backups, restores, recovery processes, and non-production environment refreshes.
\n
• Experience with database sizing, scalability, performance monitoring, and reliability.
\n
• Understanding of distributed database concepts such as replication, partitioning, consistency, sharding, and high availability.
\n
• Experience providing infrastructure or second-tier production support and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
\n
• Strong understanding of database administration standards, procedures, and best practices.
\n
• Experience with Redshift strongly preferred.
\n
• Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, DocumentDB, GraphDB, or similar distributed data technologies preferred.
\n
• Experience automating database administration, backup, restore, or environment refresh processes preferred.
\n
• Ability to understand how multiple components within a distributed environment interact and impact performance, scalability, and reliability.
\n
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex infrastructure issues and determine appropriate solutions.
\n
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with developers, technical leads, data teams, and other infrastructure professionals.
\n
• Ability to serve as a technical subject matter expert and confidently provide recommendations around database infrastructure and best practices.

Responsibilities of the right candidate:

• Administer and support PostgreSQL database infrastructure within cloud and distributed environments.
\n
• Establish and maintain database administration standards, processes, and best practices.
\n
• Perform PostgreSQL performance tuning, optimization, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
\n
• Monitor database environments and identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, availability, and reliability.
\n
• Perform database backups, restores, recovery activities, and scheduled refreshes of non-production environments.
\n
• Investigate complex infrastructure and database issues and escalate highly specialized issues to the appropriate technical experts when necessary.
\n
• Evaluate database sizing, architecture, and resource requirements as distributed environments grow.
\n
• Support technologies such as PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kafka, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, DocumentDB, and GraphDB as needed.
\n
• Develop and improve automated processes for database restores and non-production environment refreshes.
\n
• Collaborate with technical leads, developers, data engineers, data platform teams, AI teams, and other infrastructure professionals.
\n
• Provide technical recommendations regarding database architecture, standards, performance, scalability, and operational reliability.
\n
• Serve as a subject matter expert for cloud database administration and distributed data technologies.
\n
• Participate in incident management, second-tier support, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
\n
• Contribute to the development of a specialized cloud DBA capability and help establish consistent administration practices across supported technologies.
\n
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide second-tier support for critical data and infrastructure environments.
