In collaboration with departments across campus, New Student Programs welcomes students to the OU community and connects them to resources, provides opportunities to find community among their peers, and equips students with tools to be successful throughout their time on campus and beyond. About The Transition Programs Coordinator Position Reporting to the Assistant Director of Transition Programs, the Transition Programs Coordinator is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community and support the social and personal development of students at the University of Oklahoma. The position supports the recruitment of students for Start Sooner and oversees the advising and enrollment of participants as well as the development, administration, and programming for Start Sooner, a one-month summer bridge program for incoming students. Specific duties include fostering relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners; recruiting student staff and supporting the planning and execution of student staff training; and overseeing the planning and execution of events for Start Sooner. This position also advises Class Council, a departmental student organization designed to create impactful class-based (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior) programming through collaboration with campus partners on existing programs/experiences as well as creating some original programming. This includes assisting with the recruitment of students to apply for leadership positions, facilitating student leader training, budget oversight, and event guidance. Supervisory skills such as hiring, training, and providing feedback to student staff. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies. Ability to present and facilitate workshops, programs, and events. Job Duty Breakdown Start Sooner Responsibilities: 30% Assist with the design, implementation, and management of Start Sooner. Supports the development of educational, cultural, social/community, and recreational programs in a manner which is collaborative and consultative with other units within the Division of Student Affairs, campus, and local community. Focuses on student learning centered educational initiatives and content to promote community service, leadership, and well-being. Through programs, meetings, and activities on- and off-campus, develops relationships and community with and among participants. 15% Assist with the recruitment of Start Sooner participants, and oversee the advising, and enrollment of participants. 10% Undergraduate student advisement and supervision: Assist in recruiting, hiring, and training student staff at all levels for Start Sooner. Other Job Responsibilities: 20% Advise Class Council, including the training of student leaders, attendance at council meetings and events and general advising responsibilities of a student organization. 10% Assist with program delivery of all programs within New Student Programs (NSP). NSP is comprised of multiple programs in addition to those overseen by this role, including: Camp Crimson, Transfer Leadership Class, Class Council, and Transfer Programs. Assist in setting up, staffing, and tearing down events designed and implemented by other NSP staff members. 5% Assessment: Help execute an assessment for each key stakeholder group of Transition Programs, including: participants, student staff, campus and community partners. Modify and improve programs based on assessment results. Assesses goals and student satisfaction. Generates reports detailing community efforts toward university and division strategic initiatives and assessment of student learning outcomes and student experience. 10% Other related duties as assigned. View Full Job Description Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree. Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Department Preferences Bachelors degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. At least 2 years paraprofessional experience or 1-year professional experience in a secondary or higher education setting. Experience with orientation/concurrent programs (concurrent enrollment, summer orientation, camps, welcome weeks, etc.). Experience planning and executing large campus events.
