Purpose The Automation & Controls Technician will support the build and commissioning of Divergent's advanced automation systems. This is a hands‑on role focused on bringing new equipment to life, integrating electrical, mechanical, and fluid power systems into reliable, high‑performance automation. Responsibilities Build, wire, and integrate industrial control panels and automation equipment. Assemble and install mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic subsystems. Support system bring‑up, checkout, and commissioning of new automation cells. Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build and commissioning. Partner with engineers to debug issues, implement design changes, and improve system performance. Maintain clean, organized, and efficient build areas, tooling, and development cells. Basic Qualifications Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to U.S. export controls. 2–5 years of hands‑on experience building or integrating industrial automation systems. Experience with industrial electrical systems (24 VDC and 480/277 VAC). Ability to read and work from electrical schematics. Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical and mechanical systems. Experience with pneumatic systems and mechanical assembly. Proficiency with standard diagnostic tools. Preferred Qualifications Experience building complex automation systems (robotics, CNCs, custom equipment). UL 508A panel building experience. State certified as an electrician. Familiarity with PLC‑based systems and industrial networks. Experience in a fast‑paced or startup manufacturing environment. Strong organizational habits and ability to adapt quickly to new builds. Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform hands‑on build work for extended periods. Comfortable working on ladders and around industrial equipment in a factory floor environment. Some travel to other Divergent facilities.
