Team Lead/Charge Nurse
Join our team as the Team Lead/Charge Nurse in the Ortho/Surg unit where you will have the opportunity to mentor others, lead a shift, and make a real impact on patient care. We are looking for a compassionate, motivated registered nurse who leads by example and fosters teamwork and excellence every day. The team lead charge will assist in unit level operations. They help facilitate throughput by assisting bedside staff with expediting discharges and admission throughout the shift, as well as participate in interdisciplinary rounds. The team lead charge assists bedside staff with clinical tasks throughout the day to support patient safety and timeliness of care. Team lead/Charge Nurses perform in the moment audits to ensure documentation and appropriate care is being performed to promote patient safety and quality.
Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare's newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children's Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital's medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose
Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed.
Responsibilities
- Participates in professional development
- Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
- Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
- Provides unit leadership for defined period of time using critical thinking assessment and evaluation skills.
- Evaluate patients response and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patients' stay.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Nursing Diploma/Associate's
- Experience: 2-5 years
- Supervisor Experience: No Experience
- Licenses & Certifications: RN

- Education: Bachelor's Degree - Nursing
